is something wrong?
Good for you asking this question; I was too afraid and frustrated to tell anyone the discovery I could eat more than the post-op guidelines instructed. Idealistic thoughts WLS would control my eating capabilities turned to this reality: "not wanting to eat more is more important than not being able to." Establishing this reality will help you decide for yourself if eating more than 8 oz. of food at a time is normal or wrong.
Part of it depends on what you are eating. Yogurt? - yes...Cottage cheese? - yes...because these are soft foods. They can 'slide' right through. I never measured my dense protein with a cup, but weighed it on a scale. At 2 months out I could eat 2-3 oz. I usually measured 3 and if I got too full stopped. Now I am a year out and measure 3-4oz. Still can't always finish 4. My doc's mantra is "Protein first then veggies and then if you have enough room some fruit or (starchy) carbs." I do eat carbs occasionally, but early out I ate a carb maybe once a week or every 2 weeks. You have very little real estate in your pouch right now so you need to focus on protein.

There's a difference between eating 8 oz. of something by weight and 1 cup of it by volume -- "fluffy" foods, or foods with a lot of air in them, might fill a measuring cup but won't be anywhere near 8 oz. in weight. For instance, 1 cup of Special K cereal is 31g in weight, which is only 1.09 ounces.
I'm not as much of a carb nazi as many you'll find on here, but I make sure to limit my carbs substantially and only eat them with protein -- I do the "at least as many grams of protein as carbs" rule, but for an entire meal, not every food item individually. If I got a taco, I wouldn't eat the tortilla. I would eat maybe 1/4 cup of beans and only with 2-3 oz. (by weight) of dense protein. And I plan to keep cereal off the menu as long as possible -- it just doesn't fill me up, and I don't want to waste calories on foods I can easily overeat without even feeling full.
Even if something is high in protein, if it is also high in carbs it will trigger hunger to continue, and this is why you are having trouble stopping yourself while eating. Cut out those carbs. You have no need to fill your small pouch, stretching it too big, with useless food. Get some measuring cups and measure all of your meals out. 4 ounces. and put the food away before you sit down to eat so you do not get seconds. use small spoons and forks and eat slow. you will find your hunger dies down.
