Would it be bad if I didn't...

Would it be bad if I didn't get in my 60 grams of protein today?  I am 3 days post op.  I have gotten in 45 grams of protein, about 40 ounces of additional water, about 1/4 cup strained homemade French onion broth, and 1 sugar free Popsicle.  I just don't think I can do another protein drink tonight.  Surgeon said to aim for 60 grams a day until my 3 week follow up then up to 80 grams.

You are doing an awesome job.  Keeping hydrated is your first job and you are clearly a champ at that!

I agree. Youre right on target.  Fluid goals first and work to increase your protein every day till you get there.  There was no way I was making all of my goals in the beginning...that's why they call them goals!  Youll get there!

You're doing great! My surgeon said to do the best I could and not to worry if I didn't make it the first two weeks. He said I probably wouldn't make the goal at first and not to sweat it. You'll heal and have no problem soon enough

I still have trouble getting 60 grams of protein everyday, and I'm four months out. It took me around five weeks to get there consistently.  Your surgeon's goals sound rather optimistic. I've maybe reached 70 grams twice since my surgery. But I'm only 5'5". If you are much taller than me, then I guess you should try harder than I am.

Well, then I don't know why your surgeon is giving you such a high protein goal. It sounds to me like you are doing just fine. My experience is that surgeons can be unrealistic with their goals for us because they don't understand what it is like. They kinda expect us to heal from surgery and then just be normal, but we will never be normal. I trust the advice of the vets on this site because they have actually gone through the same thing and managed to keep the weight off. So keep reading the posts on this site and research everything. It is important that you learn which things to prioritize, and right now staying hydrated is your priority.

You are doing fine.  As time goes on you will be able to take in more protein, but 45 grams is good.

Hello - my doctor and nutritionist set my protein goal at 38-45.  They say it's based on your goal weight, not your current weight.

Their advice is sometimes different than others I see on these boards, but so far everything's been going perfectly so I have no reason to question them.

My surgeon told me to try 50-80g a day. I had my surgery in March and am just now getting to maybe 60g sometimes 70 of I'm lucky.
