9 weeks out and still cant get in the protein..advise

Hi..looking for the long timers advice.   I am 9 weeks out and still cant eat fish or chicken...no matter how I make it without feeling sick.  My diet still is basically soup and protein drinks. I can eat bran flakes, oatmeal, cream of wheat and eggs....I have tolerance for rice or potatoes.  I eat slowly...I make sure its moist....My diet is so monotonous.. I tried salad...threw up ..  now I just dont feel like eating at all....Has anyone else gone through this?

Are you getting all your grams of protein in with what you are eating?  Early out you have very little real estate in your pouch, so I wouldn't advise eating any starches if you aren't getting your protein in. Some things just take longer than others. For me beef was actually easier in the beginning, and using a crockpot can be your friend. Keeps things moist and soft. Switching to chicken thighs helps too. I couldn't eat tunafish or cold cuts for 6 months and other people lived on them. The tuna always balled up and made me gag. I can eat them now, but it still isn't easy or my favorite. My manta was, -moist-small bites- and chew, chew, chew. I got hung up terrible a few times when I ate something dry. Salad I couldn't really tolerate until after 3 months. I ate it before, but it didn't go well... It will get better... just make sure you are getting your protein in. The blog The World according to Eggface has a lot of Bariatric recipes to help with your boredom. Maybe try adding unflavored protein powder to things, even your soup.

Thanks NY MOM...the diet they put me on has been a struggle and I have long since given u the carbs...I dont know what they were thinking.  I am the same about tuna.I will definitely switch to the thighs and try a few of your idea.  I have had a slow recovery due to a few surgical complications...and the eating is a struggle for me.  I am never hungry and nothing tastes good anymore.  Did you go through that?

Absolutely, Nothing tasted good until about 6 months. I had about 3 meals in the first 6 months that I thought tasted good...LOL... Don't be hard on yourself... the denser proteins are harder to adjust to.  Just make sure you are getting your protein numbers where they need to be with shakes, cottage cheese, greek yogurt whatever.... the dense proteins will get easier.

I had some pretty severe complications too and it is just at 15 weeks that I am starting to tolerate dense proteins. Love Eggfaces ricotta bake. Also, I take a carton of greek yogurt(Fage has the highest protein count) and put a scoop of protein mix in it and stir it like crazy. I found it on pinterest and they called it protein"pudding". It is decent.  Also, hormel beanless turkey chili has 23g per cup and reduced fat cheese has 8g per 1/3 cup so that makes a great meal(I eat 1/2 c of chili with cheese) I also found a premade meat bolognase in the deli department that has 11g per 1/2 cup. Add the cheese to it and you are at 18 grams

I can eat Cracker Barrel Chicken Tenders and Grilled chicken nuggets from Chic Fil A. Not sure why but I have been trying to recreate them at home with not much luck.

You really need to eat a protein forward diet. Even if it is boring it is better to work your tool as best you can.  When I dont feel like eating I just go on auto pilot...shake, yogurt, shake. Makes my protein count but I dont do it often

My doc told me to work on the protein but to definitely get the fluids. You're still very early out. I really enjoyed ff refried beans with shredded cheddar and a little Greek yogurt. If the beans were too dry, I added a little broth. This was one of my favorite meals early on!  I still don't care if I eat, which is a nice bonus. Good luck!  It's well worth it!!

Kim I feel your pain an this post has been quite helpful to me. I had surgery June  2nd so I am about 10 weeks or so out. I have been eating chicken shrimp and beef but for some reason have a intolerance to the protein shakes they just make me feel sick so even with meat the small amounts I'm eating I still only get about 45 grams of protein its very discouraging and it often makes me feel like I don't wanna eat at all cuz its such small amount n I almost always no matter how slow I eat feel sick... But I guess we just gotta keep pushing through if you can drink the protein powder I went to vitamin shop and got different flavors which are low calorie and whey unflavored protein powder which I can put in soup or mashed potatoes it may help you good luck on your journey.

If your nut and/or surgeon is recommending bran flakes, oatmeal, cream of wheat, rice or potatoes this early on, you should sue them for malpractice.

Sorry, but I call them like I see them.

As for the protein problem, I had similar issues as I wasn't really hungry... lived off EAS Myoplex shakes for a while (the 42g protein ones)... if you can stand the taste, 2 a day will more than cover you.  But eventually other foods became edible.

Thanks for the advice much appreciated.... I gave up on the diet my nut was pushing and focused on the basics water protein and soft high protein first diet...so much better.
