Hello everyone!

What tricks and or tips do you have for training yourself not to drink while eating and for the 30 minutes before and after eating? I love to drink and drink and drink while I eat. I am trying hard, but I bet some of you PROS have some great tips!!

I am really missing the chug, chug, chug of my water jug!

Thanks,

iz

I don't have it at the table when I am eating. When I am making dinner I drink water while cooking so I am not tempted to eat while cooking. I will also fix my drink maybe crystal light and put it in the fridge and set my timer when I can drink again.

Good morning, I literally have to put my water bottle out of my sight! I used to have to put in my closed overhead at my desk 1/2 hour before I was going to eat so that I didn't just take a sip without thinking (it was kind of automatic for me). Good luck!

Probably the hardest adjustment for me was waiting 30-60 mins to drink after meals.  At restaurants, I'd move my drink across the table out of reach.  At home, I left it by my computer or in another room.  At work, I put it in my desk drawer.  It took months before whoever was setting the table would not put down a glass for me.  Now it's a habit.  No glass for mom.  :)

I've done this all my life - it's just a habit ...   I've seen people say they will choke, or suffer some horrible consequence for not sipping or chugging while eating, but I have survived nearly 53 years without doing so.

A lot of successful vets (I can only think of one who doesnt agree, but she has her own "different" journey) attribute this habit to not regaining like their chugging friends.

Hold on, more tips coming your way...  1.  keep yourself well-hydrated so thirst doesn't tempt you  2.  avoid high sodium foods that create thirst  3.  do an activity that makes time fly like taking a walk, taking a shower, or going on the internet  4. believe the pros when they say, "the drinking rule helps prevent !REGAIN!"  5.  repeat saying out loud tip-number-four shouting the last word  "!REGAIN!"

This is probably my biggest challenge for me so far.  I try many of the tricks posted, but I also found myself allowing for smalls sips if I need it during dinner, and then waiting for the 30-45 minutes after eating.  I'm still not good with the before dinner habits.  One lesson I've learned on this journey is to forgive myself when I screw up otherwise I will throw up my hands and binge/fall into old habits.

I do not have a drink on the table when it is time to eat.  If I have a drink going, I put it in the fridge. Also, when I am done eating, I'm usually cleaning the kitchen or doing some other household chore. At work I try to get out of the office every day at lunch, so after eating I may take a short walk in the office park, or I get in my car and do errands, (post office, drug store, cleaners, etc.).  When I'm done I can have a nice cold glass of water.
