Why is it a no-no to drink with your meal?

Subject says it all, but I find that if I don't have at least a few sips of warm liquid while I eat or just before, my stomach hurts. I get queasy and nauseous. Is that normal, or is there such a thing as normal? Actually, I get like that no matter what I do, it just seems better with a warm liquid during or before I eat.

I have always been told it's okay to drink up until I eat, but that the 30 minute wait after eating prevents the food in the pouch from being prematurely pushed through the pouch which would diminish the feeling of fullness.  If you check you tube or search the topic on OH you may find a really good video someone posted illustrating the process.

I do know that it's sometimes difficult, but those that track this type of thing say that failing to follow this rule is one of the biggest risk factors for long term weightless maintenance.

Mike. I felt the same thing about needing a warm liquid drink to keep my tummy settled . I continued that for the last 8 years.  It leads to a bad habit of constantly drinking while eating and that really washes the food out of my pouch and WILL lead to weight gain. So i suggest that drink before you eat and try to knock that habit. Out before it turns out to be an addiction. Good luck

My NUT has always saidv that drinking up until a few minutes before is okay, even though most literature says no liquids 30 minutes before. But the during/after rule should be taken very seriously.

As others said, drinking can push food right through and defeat the purpose of the small pouch.

And (more unpleasently) it can also act as a "stuck drain". If your pouch is full and you add liuid to it, sometimes instead of pushing food down, it will cause the drink (and then the food) to come back up, instead. Yuck.
