Nervous about seeing people I haven't seen since pre-surgery

Very Well written SkinnyScientist! I understand where Mute is coming from, it is hard to see 60lbs lost when you are the one living it. I look back at pictures and can see the difference but if I'm not comparing them and just looking at a recent photo, I sometimes see myself as if I was 60+ pounds heavier. Heck, my husband laughs because I take several pics because I nit pick them but ONE of the shots should work, and I delete the ones that don't. LOL We see ourselves daily and as we are proud of our weight loss sometimes we just can't see it, but that visual really puts things in perspective! Thank You!!!

Melinda, you are doing a GREAT job! 60+ lbs is nothing to sneeze at.....Keep up the good fight and enjoy your friends! They are going to be so shocked when they see you, after all you said it's been a while, so the weight loss is going to jump out at them!

I don't think it's abnormal at all. When anything about you changes, it's normal to expect people to notice it, and then knowing they're thinking about that can be uncomfortable. I'm nervous to visit my in-laws next Christmas, and it's still 5 months away! The last time my husband and I saw them, we were 70 and 109 lbs heavier, and he never even told them about our surgeries, so it'll be a complete surprise.
I totally feel your distress. Last year, which was about 80 pounds post-op for me, I went to a big convention where I was going to see a lot of friends I hadn't seen since pre-op and, even though they all knew about my surgery and had seen pics on Facebook, I was SO NERVOUS. I was worried that it was going to be all anyone wanted to talk about, or that they'd be disappointed that I hadn't lost more, or any other number of things.
But, it was awesome and my friends were awesome :) I'm sure your visit and friends will be the same!

WLS is and should be about you getting better health and better quality of life... AND YOU/ Are/ Did it and doing it. The bystanders will have mixed emotions, since the focus of being an over weighted person is you no more. It could and can get bumpy for them because you were brave to make a change in your life. WLS is not the easy route since you have to manage this for the rest of your life for success. You might have to make a little data book for them to read, to really understand what WLS is, about the facts and are facts and to cancel out here-say and emotional non-facts about what is and does for you.
