Good for you! How exciting. I have never jogged... at this point I'd love to be able to do a real jumping jack, and do the jump part...

I haven't done a jumping jack either.  I do one leg at a time.  One day . . .

Dont feel bad about the jumping jacks.  I had back surgery and they were HELL on my lower bac****il I got very close to goal. Also, when my knee acts up, I go back to the one leg at a time thing.

You are still getting cardio benefit from the raising of your arms over your heart level and kicking that leg out.

I am convinced that a good portion of the sweat and cardio of figure skating comes just from keeping your hands out at shoulder level for long periods of time. Seriously, stick you arms up out to the side at shoulder level. See if you can hold it for 20-30 minutes.

I even work up a sweat working on spins (where one uses the arms for balance, center the spin, and do the speedy revolutions).

:)

This is wonderful!  Welcome to the jogging/running club!   Yay!

PS. Jogging/running is never pretty. Take a look at all weird faces that olympian track stars make!  You are WORKING. You are burning calories and making better cardiovascular health!    You are doing it!  Yay!

The more you jog, your distance will improve.  Just remember there is a fine balance between over-training (which risks injury and limited gains) versus pushing yourself.

Are you starting to think of a goal like a 5K?  I think you could very reasonably be ready for an October/November (i.e. turkey trot) at an easy-slow pace.  It is a goal you may wish to consider. Alternatively, some people jog/train with no runs in mind.  I really dont have runs in mind.  Then I usually find a flyer for a charity that means something to me (e.g. Kids-n-chemistry; Komen) and then I just HAVE to do it.  Ya, know?

I am proud of you. Good work and well done!

That is the plan!  I would love to do a turkey trot (they have one in my area) for Thanksgiving.  I am starting slow.  I am just slowly jogging for 1 minute every 10 minutes of my 1 hour walk to start.  I figure I can slowly move up like I did with my walking (going to 1 1/2 min and so on) and hoping that I can jog for an extended period by November.

Thanks for the encouragement!

Awesome!! Keep it up!!

I used to run in my 20's when I was thin, but years of obesity ruined my knees. I do a lot of walking, but I wish I could run
