Im 2 weeks post op and beginning to take more vitamins.  What vits are we NOT suppose to take together. What I think ( thought) was multi and sub lingual in the morning, calcium 4 hrs later?  And I have to take 2 calcium, can they be taken together?

I am not an expert, but I can share what I know.

Your body can only absorb about 500 mg of calcium citrate at a time -- therefore, you need to divide into three doses to get the recommended 1500 mg per day.

You shouldn't take calcium and iron together.  The calcium will cancel out the absorption of iron.

You should take Vit D3 with calcium.  You can also take magnesium (if you take it) with calcium. All three work together for absorption.

You should take vitamin C with iron.  C helps iron to absorb.

If your multi has iron, you obviously need to separate it from your calcium.

I take my B12 with my multi.

Hope this helps somewhat.

It does thank you.  I was told to only take 1000 mgs of calcium now so i will seperate them.  Does it have to be hours before taking the next dose?

The American Bariatric Surgery Society recommends a minimum of 1500 mg of calcium citrate.  Is there a reason they are recommending less to you?  Is it increasing as you are further out?

To answer your question, I was told at least 3 hours between dosages.

Hope this helps.

Yes I think they are slowly working up to the maximum vits.  Slow and steady.  Thanks for the info

I was told that you can't take calcium with your iron.  So I take my multi in the morning and my calcium later in the day (at least 4 hours later) I was also told to not take more than 600mg of calcium at one time.  So it depends on how much is in each pill that you need.

Check the dosage on your calcium bottle.  A 500 mg calcium pill would be huge!  Most calcium dosages are two pills for a total of 500 mg to 620 mg.  I would hate for you to not be taking the correct dosage.

Most doctors recommend 1500 to 1800 mg daily.  If you are taking 500 mg, twice daily that is only 1000 mg and doesn't sound like enough.  You can only absorb 500 mg at a time. That's why the dosages are seperated.
