Nicotine

So is it NICOTINE or SMOKING that causes ulcers? I have not SMOKED all year but I was using 6mg of nicotine in an e-cig. Last week I was told to go to 0 and it was all good. The nurse at the surgeons office treated me like I was some crazed drug addict and that Id have to have tests done, what gives. If they would say NICOTINE then I would not even have this question so is it NICOTINE or SMOKING? There is a huge difference now adays.

why don't you ask them?

check your paperwork - to make sure you followed the doc instruction.

did they mentioned nicotine test?

BTW: some docs believe that if someone uses the electronic cigarettes - they woudl start smoking again.. sooner or later..

My doctor said there is a problem with both.  The nicotine is dangerous on a lot of levels, including problems with blood flow and healing.  The smoke (from an e-cig or regular cigarettes and other smoke) is bad for the tissue when it goes into your stomach (which is part of inhaling and breathing in).  I have been told by multiple doctors for various reasons that e-cigs might not have as many carcinogens but are not good in any way and should be quit as soon as possible.

Nicotine is what they will test you for. There are some surgeons that won't touch a patient if they test positive for nicotine.

I use e cigs occasionally, like once or twice a day, if that.  I quit smoking 2 years ago and the e cigs do help when I get cravings.  To tell you the truth I don't really pay attention to how much, if any, nicotine is in my liquids.  I bought a ton when I quit, both zero and low nicotine and I was mixing them together.

Anyway, I am having surgery in a few days and I mentioned the e cigs to my surgeon and was told to switch to zero nicotine liquids, which I have, so I assume it is the nicotine that causes the problems.

I was told it was both for different reasons. Likewise, pre-surgery they consider smoking any drug versus ingesting (ie: eating weed products, for example) to be the same exact thing, because they can't test independently for it.
