I can no longer sit around and I know I have to be my own self motivator. So I decided to do walk 30 mins on the treadmill. How soon did you all start exercising?

I didn't truly start excersing until I had my two week check up with my doctor. I was very sore and still in a good amount of pain when I came home from the hospital though. However  every 30 minutes to an hour I would get up and just walk. I started walking to the end of the street and slowly increased my distances.

Good for you and keep it up - but don't over do it!

I was not able to walk 30 minutes all at once right out of surgery, but my doctor advised me to get 30 minutes of walking every day - so I did it in intervals.  First 10 minutes at a time, then 15 minutes.  If you can do 30 without pain and weakness, I think its great.  You have to listen to your own body, but I think you should just shoot for consistency - that's what I was advised to do.  4 to 5 times a week, 30 minutes of walking, and make it a habit.  Then start adding different exercise and adding time/intensity as you are able.

I was advised to do only walking for the first 4 weeks.  I was then cleared for everything, weights up to 20 pounds, until week 8.  I'm now just about 9 weeks out and do 35 - 45 minutes of Aerobic exercise 6 days a week.  I feel amazing and it just keeps getting better!  If you're already able to walk 30 minutes only 4 days post op then I can't wait to see where you are by week 9!!!

I can tell you with great certainty it was not 4 days post-op unless you count the laps in the hospital hallways.  My WLS was in November, so walking inside big box stores, starting almost right away, was pretty much it for those winter months. You'll do much better.

Laps in the hospital (or outside when home) was all I could do for the first 4 mnths.

The docs want you to walk to keep your airway clear.

4 months intensely (I.e. yoga).

I walked the day of surgery. It was bits and spurts but never gave up regular walking.

Yoga and intense exercise made me faint until about 4 months out

I did laps in the hallway at the hospital ( I was there for 4 days) bc my blood pressure and oxygen were very low.  Once I was home I did walks in my neighborhood and when I saw my surgeon at 1 wk he cleared me to walk, do elliptical, stationary bike etc.. As much as possible.  At one wk I could walk about 2.5 miles at 4.5 weeks out I am walking about 4.5 miles at a 13.30 min/mile.  The one thing I was told repeatedly was not to push, pull, or lift anything over 10 pounds until 6 weeks.
