Normally I just lurk this thread but have to say we have so mu*****ommon! 1982 ;) also I had my surgery exactly 2 weeks after you at the same weight and now I'm 4lb behind you in current weight. But I am a little scared because your calories are so low! I'm eating around 800 now. So now I'm worried that's too much! I haven't had problems eating anything so perhaps that is a blessing and a curse!

Good morning all:

My favorite fruit of all time has to be a juicy nectarine in the summertime when they taste the best.  Never a peach, must be a nectarine.  My favorite vegetable has always been carrots.  Sigh...  I haven't had one in a very long time.   This is the first week I am trying vegetables again. 

 I had sweet potato and last night I had a very small amount of peas.  They are so ridiculously high in carbs that I probably won't have them again for a long time. 

 

B:  Premier Protein Shake

L:  Amy's Sonoma Veggie Burger w/ 1/2 slice Cabot Low Fat Cheese

D:  Turkey Burger, my hubby makes the best turkey burgers ever. 

S:  SF Pudding w/ 1/2 scoop Jay Robb Protein Powder

Good Morning! Sounds like you're on a roll today (love it!) I am not a fan of gardening but do love to be outdoors when it's not wicked hot. 

Favorite fruit: Strawberries Favorite veggie: Edamame

Here's my plan today:

Time since surgery: 9 1/2 months

B: SF latte, egg beater scramble with feta, spinach, and broccoli and some fruit (nectarine and apple) 

S: Cranberry thin addictives and a laughing cow cheese wedge

L: P3 Ham pack with some skinny pop

S: L&F Greek Strawberry cheesecake yogurt and a tad granola

D: Flat out pizza and froyo

E: ½ hour stationary stepper and may hit the building gym for 1/2 my lunch for some cardio

V/W: On track

Totals: Cals: 1182 Protein: 78 Carbs: 128 Fat: 43

Hi everyone!  Great questions, Kristin!  My favorite fruit right now is mango.  But it has to be perfectly ripe. And someone else has to get the skin off and get it off that damn pit.  I sound high maintenance, huh?  I also love asparagus and made some last night with my turkey meatloaf.  It was amazing.  I drizzle it with olive oil and salt and pepper and crushed red pepper, put it in the oven for 15+ minutes at 400, flipping it over once.  At the end I sprinkle it with parmesan cheese.  Too bad I can eat two.  Ha ha.

I am loving my menu today.  I have been in a rut, but I am back to something a bit more exciting.

B: Smoked trout from Trader Joe's on Fiber Gourmet half calorie everything crackers with a smear of light whipped cream cheese

S: Pistacchios

L: Leftover turkey meatloaf and 2 asparagus spears.  I hope this sits well since sometimes ground turkey is a little dry for pouch-y as a leftover.

D: Two Amy-lu's andouille chicken sausage from Costco - my absolute favorite chicken sausage in the world

S: Wine :)

E: I did a great interval training session this morning, and walked to and from the gym

Totals are 1,200 calories, 85 protein, 56 carbs.

1200 calories?! 56 carbs?! You're going to pass out I fear/I'm jealous. I'm in a total rut too with my menus, but nothing else seems to be calling my name so I just keep my head down and keep at it.

Also you reminded me of Fiber Gourmet, I really need to make a netrition order!

Mean old Chili is going to post on your thread. I do follow this and have bit my tongue for awhile. My post comes from a true place of concern and it is just a friendly reminder. Many of you are still in your "honeymoon" phase. Though you may be at goal or close to goal it doesn't mean you are safe.  I look at your totals for the days and your carb and calorie counts are enormous and more than that, dangerous to your long term success. Eating so much WILL catch up to you. Please some of you reevaluate your menus and make the necessary changes now before you lose the benefit of the first 18 months postop.

Hey, Chili... so what should be the total limits that you think would be a good total?

And, I am asking because I am truly concerned with my totals at times. I have yet to go back to my nutritionist since my surgery. But, her recommendations before surgery, that she said would apply after surgery, was not to worry about calories at all, 60-80 grams of protein, no more than 20 grams of carbs per meal, with 10 or less of that being sugar. She also recommended 5 meals per days.

My calories usually range from 600 - 825 per day. And, to be honest, most days, I don't get in everything I list.  Like I have all intentions of getting in 3 oz. of fish, when in reality I can only eat 2 oz. at that sitting. I usually get at least 65 or so grams of protein... and I know that my NUT would prefer 80 everyday. It is just hard for me to consume enough food to get all the grams in and I am drank so many protein drinks before and after surgery that the thought of one makes me want to gag. Also, my carbs are usually in 40-50 grams a day, which I think is high but is within my NUT's limits.

Any help would be appreciated.

Also, I think with a lot of the others that contribute, they are exercise fiends! So, isn't that a consideration when taking in the totals?

Thank you for your concern (seriously). However, the highest calorie total I see on the thread is 1,425 with 135 carbs.  That person also does high intensity workouts for an hour or more per day.  I myself am training for a half ironman.  I need calories and carbs to train.  I watch my portion sizes (my greatest downfall per surgery) and eat protein first.  Do you think my numbers are too high?

What are your daily totals?  Do you exercise?  What type of exercise?

HA!  I know for me menu planning is like a game:  can I get at least 75 grams of protein and less than 50 carbs for under 900 calories?  Most of the time I win my game, but sometimes I don't.  And logging/posting my menu in the morning allows me to make any changes before I start eating.

Advice from a successful vet is welcome!  I am currently in what I think must be maintenance...I am between 153 and 157 everyday and I can't figure out the exact number of calories.  I do see people 1.5 years out like me who are in maintenance at 900 calories and somehow I am in maintenance at 1,500 calories.  I eat more calories than that on a day when I do a particularly voracious workout.  I do work out in one way or another seven days a week, which helps me burn calories.  I figure by weighing every single day, when my metabolism changes and when my malabsorption ends, I will have to make adjustments.  

Trust me, I never want to go back to where I began, so I am vigilant with my weighing of food and limiting carbs for the most part.  But yes, all of us on this post (should) welcome advice and specific pointers :)
