Tell me it's ok...

So I'm nearly a month out (surgery date 4/28)from my bypass surgery. I'm doing what I'm supposed, drinking water, protein shakes and an occasional diet snapple. Eating is definitely restricted, I  start soft foods tomorrow, but can tolerate anything I'm allowed without issue. Exercise has not been a big part of my regimen yet, I still have a lot of incision pain, and a recent respiratory infection set me back with the pain.

My HW was 335, SW was 315. Today I'm 304. That's 11# lost in the month since surgery. Not what I pictured when the surgeon said the pounds will "melt off" initially.

Just looking for some positive reinforcement.....

The first month is a yo-yo with the trauma from surgery. The most I ever lost in a single month was 21 pounds, and I was bigger than you.

Work your plan. Track your food. I still weigh all my portions. It rwally helps keep me on track. If you are doing your part, this will work. Weightloss is not a straight line.

6'3" tall, male.

Highest weight was 475. RNY on 08/21/12. Current weight: 198.

M1 -24; M2 -21; M3 -19; M4 -21; M5 -13; M6 -21; M7 -10; M8 -16; M9 -10; M10 -8; M11 -6; M12 -5.

It's ok.

You are going to lose more weight this year than you ever have.

You are doing great. Look what you have been through this month. Surgery and an upper respiratory infection, give your body a break. Follow your plan and you will be fantastic!

As for exercise, please just start walking, even if it's just around the house or yard, do some laps. It will be good for your lungs and great for your weight loss efforts.

Don't know if this makes you feel any better, but the first month after my RNY I lost 14 lbs. (I actually went back to my log to check for you!) -- and I didn't have a respiratory infection during that time.

Sixteen months later, I am 191 pounds lighter.  I actually have lost more than I weigh.

Follow your plan and have faith.  As long as you aren't eating mashed potatoes, pureed tacos or three musketeer bars -- you are doing fine!
