Bhamby that is awesome and iloveravens I live in Canton too!  I am having the RNY with Dr. Hart later this summer or early fall. Waiting for insurance now.  I went to my first support group last night for the practice. Very excited to join you both on the losing side. Any advice?!

I was chatting with someone last night who has PCOS and told her about you and your weight loss.  I told her not to get discouraged if it comes slowly because I had seen a success story.

Have her join and PM me! I would love to speak with her.

The trick was low carb/no carb. The carbs I did/do have are always low GI.  I have a pocket sized book with the GI values of foods and I consult it for every recipe and make modifications if necessary. Examples would be a cauliflower crust for dough crusts and spiralized zucchini "noodles" for spaghetti noodles.

My husband is diabetic. By eating this way (i.e. "my way") his diabetes medication got lowered to the lowest dose possible AND only needs to be taken every-other day.  The doctor is really considering taking him off his diabetes meds entirely. Also, his cholestrol meds were reduced too.

I dont know if it is the GMO wheat, or just the processing of grains or what. BUt it is very apparent to me that todays breads/grains/noodles do not agree with the metabolism of certain subpopulations (i.e. PCOS, diabetics).  I wish I knew why.  And it KILLS me to know that all those low fat diets which were high in carbs ultimately were hurting me and reproductive health. The body hair and dark patches I was sprouting at this time were embarrassing and hurt me deeply.

I just wish I knew THEN what I did now. It can be done. It really can!!! The diet was very hard initially(I.e. low/no carb; low gi carbs only). But after that that period was over, I believe I was losing as well as everyone else who has had RNY.

Re wheat:  The book you should read is Wheat Belly by William Davis MD.  It explains a great deal about why current wheat affects people so profoundly.
