I survived!

My surgeon was running ahead of schedule, so my 11:30 surgery started at 10:45. It took over 3 hours since there was apparently more to my hernia repair than originally anticipated, but I'm hanging in there. Definitely sore. I was really hungry going in, and I still feel something like hunger now. Is that normal 9 hours post-op? I'm also wondering if some signals are just getting crossed. I'm allowed to start sipping water in 15 minutes, so I hope that helps.
The best news is that my day of all liquids blew my goal of losing 80 lbs before surgery out of the water, I was 225 Saturday morning at home and 218 this morning on the hospital's scale! I came within 7 lbs of dropping my BMI too low and disqualifying myself! (My insurance only cares about your weight the morning of surgery for determining coverage.) But it all worked out in the end! My surgeon even told my family that my anatomy was perfect for the procedure.
Whoo hoo! Fantastic news! Welcome to the post surgery losers bench.
Focus on recovery and keep on following your surgeons protocol. You're doing great! I felt hungry, sort of, but could only have tiny amounts of broth (when I was cleared for it). I think a lot of the hunger is in our heads but regardless, you're not alone.

Thanks Christine, that's good to know! I also remember reading about people having trouble getting their fluids in immediately post-op. I'm allowed 1 oz water or 1 oz protein shake (alternating) every 15 mins, and I'm not having any trouble at al. I'm starting to worry that he didn't really do the surgery!
I had no trouble either. I haven't had any issues with food yet, in fact! But trust me you will feel the restriction when you get to add real food - meaning non liquid. Puree and such. Great work!

Congratulations! My surgery is on Thursday and the more details and success stories I read about, the less nervous I feel. Keep the updates coming. So glad to hear you are doing well.
