EIGHT YEARS POST RNY---DON'T WANT TO EAT

I am so sorry for your loss.  I lost my husband to cancer less than two years after my surgery.  I am happy that he got to see me get to goal and have improved health.  It relieved his anxiety about having to leave me.

Losing a mate to death is one of the greatest stresses that we go through.  I do hope you have done grief counseling.  That helped me with some of the issues.  It took a long time to start eating again.  I just did not want to eat and did not do it.  I made do on protein shakes for many months.

Give yourself time and get some counseling.  I realize now that every relationship will end.  Either in death or splitting up.  Look for new friends and new interests.  I got involved with line dancing and met lots of new people that way.  I will never be the same as when I was married but I make the best of life and keep doing new things and meeting new people.

Take vitamins, drink the protein shakes, maybe try Lean Cuisine meals even if you throw most of it away.  That is what worked for me.

Real life begins where your comfort zone ends

White Dove,

I am active with a grief support group (actually two of them) and trying to help a couple of other widows online that live in other states.  I am also beginning to write in order to work on grief recovery.  I am taking a new class in writing memoirs and hope that will give me an outlet to deal with stress as well.  I appreciate the advice and the fact that you took time to reply.  It is hard sometimes to remember that I am not in this alone.  I actually turned back to this forum after two years away because I had recommended it for a friend considering RNY.  So good to get responses after such a long absence.  Thank you!

This too will pass, like a kidney stone but it will pass!

I am so sorry for your loss. I'm only 3 weeks post op but I struggle with nausea first thing in the morning which makes it difficult to want to eat or drink anything. I do have a prescription for nausea medication but I have a cup of hot ginger tea in the morning which seems to settle the nausea down plus I get 12oz of liquids in first thing in the morning.

There are several WLS support groups in my area (California) including Kaiser which don't require that I had the surgery with them. If there are any in your area it may be worth it to attend a couple of meetings and pick their brains about bariatric surgeons in the area. Even though they did not perform your surgery they may take you on as a patient. It's worth checking into. My PCP specializes in internal medicine but has several bariatric patients and is very hands on in requesting labs and communicating with my bariatric surgeon.

Carpe Diem!

I am 12 years post op, at goal but seriously wish we didn't need to eat. I have no appetite and I really hate water. My pouch hurts from plain water ?? Sugar free kool aid and skim milk. I have noooo regrets in having the surgery but food is so in our face . I eat very healthy, still dump but you best see a dr about being sick every meal. I hope you get answers. You are not alone 'hugs'
