What's on Your Wednesday Menu, RNYers?
Hi everyone,
I have been reading this thread and I've learned so much from all of you! Though I'm still obviously learning, I'd like to join in and contribute now that I am post op and in purée stage.
Time since surgery: 2 weeks (16 days! - I'm melissasue's surgery twin!)
B - protein shake: BA chocolate, 1% milk
AM Snack - 1/4 c. Part skim Ricotta
L - puréed tuna (2oz), 1t low fat mayo, seasonings
PM Snack - laughing cow wedge
D - 1/4 c. puréed chicken chili (homemade) and 1T low fat cheddar shredded
E - 1 mile walk, 5 minute 2lb weights = 30 minutes
W/V - in process
Totals: 68g protein, 35g carb, 19 g fat, 573 cals
I have terrible knees so walking is really challenging. I've worked up to 20 minutes / 1 mile since surgery, but once I'm cleared for it I will go back to my biking. I can do more time and intensity on the bike, but it's fantastic to be outside walking in the fresh air again! As I lose weight the walking will be easier, as will so many things. I'm super excited to add more and different movement and exercise to my days. I feel like I'm being released from prison! Anyway, nice to e-meet you all!

Welcome, Christine! I remember the excitement of moving to soft foods - and things that were not sweet! I used to love a tbsp of tomato sauce mixed with low fat ricotta and Italian seasoning since I was sooooo tired of sweet protein shakes. So congrats!
At 350 lbs, my knees also hurt a LOT, and now I work out everyday and ran a 5k. You are headed to happier knees for sure! It's an exciting journey :) Good analogy - being released from prison :)
Thanks so much - you have been and are such an inspiration to me!
Monday was my first day of puréed and I didn't have a single sweet thing. Could not face it! Thank heavens I haven't hit anything that's disagreed with me yet, but it's all new.
Thanks again for the encouragement. You rock!

Happy to have you join us Christine! Walking is the only exercise I did to lose my weight and I did just fine. Down 150 pounds for two years and my knees are so much better. Before I was out of breath going down my basement steps and now I can do a 5k in less than 42 minutes. I did add a work and light weights to tone up but walking is still my key exercise every day.
Welcome Christine! Good for you getting your exercise in early out. It is not easy in the beginning.

I am happy to hear that I am not the only one known to leave a bag at the store. Makes me feel better at least! I didn't get my bike ride in yesterday with the busyness but walked home from the concert so I got plenty of steps in anyway. Sunny here in Illinois but a *****illy. Lily and I will head to the park when I finish my coffee. We will do at least 3 miles and I will do 2.5more on the treadmill. I will also do 25 minutes on the bike at some point. Post op almost 32 months and weight at 120.4 . On track with vitamins and fluids and here's the food plan: B 1/2 c steel cut oats with nuts and half a banana with peanut butter L 31/2 oz chicken and cheese with 80 calorie light and fit salted caramel Greek yogurt D 31/2 oz ground beef and hummus with pepper slices S key lime Greek yogurt with granola. Have a great day full of good choices everyone!
OMG I just started purée on Monday and I know exactly how you feel! Let the countdown to savor foods begin! I've been reading this thread for a while and it has helped so much. :-)
