I had RNY on 3/23/15 and about a week after i had my annual GYN visit everything came back normal but around a week later i got my menstrual cycle which wasnt due for another week and a half and i've had it ever since, its also been kinda heavy which is not my norm. I called their office a few days ago and told them about it and they said that it might be due to the WLS and rapid weightloss or maybe from my new diet, vits, hormones etc. Is this normal after wls? Has anyone else gone thru this?

I am so glad you posted this! I have been have many issues since my RNY in December. I'm perimenopause (hate admitting THAT- but...) I have had HEAVY periods and never go 28 days in between.  It is between two and three weeks later that I start again. I have bad cramping and I"ve never had that. It really must be what they said....

Good luck to you!!

Totally normal.  Anesthesia can cause irregular periods and also the rapid weight loss releases the estrogen stored in your fat into your blood stream.  The extra estrogen can cause menstrual problems as well as some pretty wild mood swings.

I feel better knowing it's a common issue and that I'm not the only one. I was starting to get nervous

I had my surgery on 10/27/14. I always had mild periods until now.  Like you it's heavy and only a few weeks between them. I asked my Doctor about it and was told it was because of the weight loss and all of the other changes.  Hope this helps!

I wonder if this will be long term or just something that happens in the beginning stages.

It levels off when your weight loss starts to slow down.
