See Food Differently

So far, so good. I've occasionally smelled something hubby eats and it smells good but I have no desire to eat it. I tend to go through favorites of what I can eat--this week it's plain greek yogurt with PB2; last month it was plain cottage cheese. Everything else is just kind of meh, whatever, let's get this out of the way so we can do something else.

We don't have broadcast TV, so luckily don't see all those food commercials. Though once hubby got a soft pretzel when we were out shopping and I will admit to picking off some of the salt. I was craving salt for a couple weeks right after I got out of the hospital with an infection, and I realized it was because I'd stopped having my daily cup of broth or sports drink for electrolytes and they'd had me on IVs for several days.

What ratio do you mix the PB2 and greek yogurt to? I just ordered some PB2 on Amazon and am eager to try it out when it arrives!

It probably will be...for a time and then maybe you might revert back to your old thought patterns or you may not. It depends on you.

I have foods I dump on. I look at them, miss them and still mourn them occasionally. Fortunately, I remind myself that this will make me sick.

But then there are foods I can eat lots of ...that are tasty and kind of bad...like SKinnyGirl microwave popcorn. Most of the time, I think "Yum! I would like to have some of that"

However, I have to then pause, be mindful, and remidn myself WHAT my goals are. My goals are: 1) maintain my current weight 2) NOT have to buy bigger sizes now that I have started to build a new "FINAL" wardrobe. This is huge because my weight has NEVER been stable (i.e. I was either losing on a diet or packing on the pounds..NEVER just..."being")) 3) finish a half marathon.

I cant do that if I look at food as solely a pleasurable thing. Fuel first..then if it tastes consider it a bonus.

I totally agree. I see food in a totally different light. Thank goodness. I'm 4 months out and still get sick if I eat my protein too fast. Thanks for the post and keep up the good work.

I'm 10 weeks out, and every commercial still has me drooling.  I try not to look.  For instance, there's the Jack in the Box Buttery Jack... that one gets me every time.  I know I can't eat it, but it still looks and sounds good!  Then there's the Marie Calendar's commercials... and the homemade Eggs Benedict pictures from The Broken Yolk Café here in town.

I haven't and I certainly WILL NOT succumb... but dang... they still look good to me.  Darn.

I can't go to buffets because seeing all that food makes me gaggy. I see how much people put in their mouth and I am mentally judgemental, needless to say , I shoved ALOT of food in my mouth at one time also. I love to cook now but if I have spend along time cooking, I can't eat it. I sometimes wish we never had to eat. 12 years out and at goal because food is something I have to do

I don'****ch much TV, but my husband does.  Most food commercials or Food Programs make me nauseated.  I also can't tolerate womens magazines with lots of food and recipe pictures.  This especially affects me if I've just eaten within 2 hours.

I'm 6 yrs post RNY.  I also don'****ch people eat - mostly because of big bites or fatty, greasy or junk food - also makes me gaggy and nauseated.

Maybe that's just me.  I can't even go in a fast food restaurant without getting nauseated because of the smell.
