Surgery Soon!
Surgery is only 6 days away! I had my pre-op/pre-admission appointment Tuesday and found out the surgeon is also going to take my gallbladder. Has anyone had their gallbladder removed too? Any issues? I start my clear liquid diet Sunday so my last meal will be Saturday. Not sure what I'll have since I've been saying goodbye to my favorites for about 6 months now. Just can't wait til its done!

I insisted that my surgeon take my gallbladder out at the same time as my RNY surgery. My abdominal ultrasound showed gallstones. I figured, why wait for the inevitable gallbladder attack and then have to go through surgery, pain and recovery all over again? As far as I can tell there was no difference in my recovery from RNY than there would have been if I hadn't had it out. Either way we are restricted with the amount of fats we consume which can have a huge affect on a gallbladder issues. Hope this helps. Chris

I'm pre-op for RNY but had my gallbladder out previously. It was my first major surgery and was really no big deal...I was jumping off the bunk bed in my dorm again less than a week later (18-year-olds heal pretty quickly, though). I had some trouble digesting really fatty foods afterwards, but having it out at the same time as your RNY, you probably won't have any tougher of a recovery than if they just did the RNY.
I had my gall bladder out when I was about 35? Honestly it was such an easy recovery from a surgery I was surprised. Way better than the attacks id been having for sure! I took a week off work. Was ready to go back to my desk job in two days. I'm guessing our surgery is the same day maybe because mine is on the 22nd? Been on my pre op since April 1st. Good luck!
