This is actually a very important point -- you can have a bowel movement every day and still be constipated if what you're moving is days-old.

I agree completely with flaxseed.  I made a Muffin in a Minute at least once a day.  Every variety from the basic to chocolate cherry brownies.  They provided fiber and also a daily cake or bread type treat.

I take 200mg chelated magnesium every day (chelated is not necessary, just happens to be what I have and it supposedly is better absorbed in the intestine) - negligible calories and works a treat.  Has also cleared me of night cramps which plagued me for years.

Please also keep in mind that having a sufficient amount of fat in your diet is also an important factor.  People who severely limit their fat intake post-op usually have far more trouble with constipation than those who don't.

Did we ever think we would be talking about constipation on a message board?  Probably not.  At least, I didn't.  I had problems for a long time.  I tried many things.  I'm almost 7 years out and have finally found what works for me.  I chew Fiber Gummies (6/day).  They do have 5 carbs per serving which is 2, but have 5 grams of fiber.  I also add fiber powder to my shakes.  I just started taking one or two Sennokot tablets at bedtime if needed.  The Ducolax gives me severs stomach cramps.

I have made several of the Muffin in a Minute versions, but I haven't liked the taste the flaxseed gives, but that is a good source for fiber.

Thanks for sharing what worked for you.
