when does it get better?

I'm a few days out from surgery. I don't want to sound like I'm complaining because I am very grateful for this chance and tool. But my goodness I'm tired and not myself. When did you start feeling normal again? I'm walking and sipping. I just don't want to feel so dead. I have no energy at all!

Better takes a while.  Not only have you just gone through major surgery but your body is having to adjust to a lot less food.

It didn't happen for me overnight.  It just seemed that every day I felt a little better and could do a little more.  I would say it truthfully was about 6 months before I was back to normal, whatever that is.

I have since had two more surgeries (for hernias) and the last one was open and it was rough, too, but I bounced back a lot quicker then I did with my revision, probably because my health was better by then, I was getting in tons of protein and vitamins and my food intake was a bit better.  I would say that was about a month to get back to normal.

For me, I felt more like myself at 5 week post-op.  Be kind and patient with yourself.  You need to adjust and heal.  Believe that it does get better and in a few months you'll almost forget how it feels to be a fresh post-op.  Hang in there - you are worth it!

usually takes more than a few days. More like a few weeks and sometimes a few months.

That first week was the roughest for me. Starting the second week I started gaining some energy back. I am 4 weeks out now. Don't have tons of energy but I don't feel to bad! I went back to work 13 days after my surgery. Working full days. By the end of the day I am tired but not dead. The more protein and fluids you get in the more energy you will start seeing come back.

For some of us, it takes a while. It took me six months to get my energy back and start to feel somewhat "normal" again.

It gets better every day but really takes a year to be fully back to how you felt before surgery.
