Surgery Monday (two days ago)
I feel great....came home yesterday and drove with my dog to the dog park today for 2 hours. My question/s are about the food.
My my doctor wants me to have 80-88 grams of protein per day. I am allowed caffeine, creamy soups and plain yogurt as part of my "liquids.
this morning I had a Starbucks 2%latte to which I added 30 grams of unflavored protein powder. For lunch I had strained cream of chicken soup with another 30 grams of protein powder. Now I'm having a fage 2% yoghurt which is 14 grams.
heres my confusion.....My body does feel hungry when I eating. And, I feel like I could eat quite a bit if I wanted to...I don't, but feel like I could.
So many posters have said they weren't hungry and had to force themselves to eat.....this concerns me that I feel great, have no problem getting in my protein and liquids and am hungry!
what are your thoughts?
First, Congratulations on starting your journey. I felt the same way in the beginning. Part of it is the 'slider' nature of the foods, and you are healing and from what I understand that includes the nerves they cut that make you feel full. It will change when you get to more solid food. Some people say they 'never feel hungry again' That is not me, but hunger is not the same, I get hungry, not ravenous. Stick with the program, measure what you are eating. My doc said from the beginning I could eat up to 5 or 6 times a day, but I was just eating a small amount each time.

My first week following R&Y I was only allowed clear liquids. I can say I was one that didn't feel hungry. I could not stand the clear liquids Protein drinks I found. However, my NUT said that week they were concerned with the fluid intake. I started puree week two. That is what I have been doing now. Next week I should go to a soft diet. I can't really say I have that to full feeling. However, I have been very careful about measuring what I am suppose to have and not trying to push the limits. I can say, that I don't think I ever feel hungry. With the 5 mini meals (3 meals 2 snacks) that I try to get in but most days only get in 4 and the liquids I never have that feeling of being hungry. I can tell you that now being a little over 3 weeks post-op I have never had any vomiting or issues.
