2 weeks post-op: Itchy and Red Incision Sites

Hi all.  I'm about 2 weeks post-op (had RNY on March 23).  Everything is going well and I'm excited to be starting on my new journey.  My incision sites are itchy and red.  When I had a follow up with my doctor, he said the itchiness is from the nerves growing back.  The incision sites are red, but not hot and do not seem infected.  Did anyone else have these symptoms?

I would say yes... I'm 8 weeks out now and at 2 weeks my incisions were still sore.  The itchy part is a sign of healing (according to my doc) and a good thing.  They should get better soon.  Mine only stopped hurting completely about 2 weeks ago.

Could it have been from the strips they put on?? I am very allergic to them and the area will turn red and itch like no body's business. Just my thought, maybe some benadryl(so?) to help the itch. Hope you get to feeling better soon, it is a downer for sure!

Hey there!! I'm in the same boat you are totally, lol. My surgery was March 23rd as well and I'm itching like no ones business and they are slightly red. I knew the itching was from the healing and is really a good sign and figured the redness went along with it. Glad I'm not the only one though!

After my rny, I had red and itchy incisions.  Ten months later, after my gall bladder surgery, my red incisions had weeping blisters and were swollen. I had an allergic reaction to the dermabond glue.  It's now on my list of allergies.

Thanks all. This was a post-surgery condition I didn't know to expect. I sure hope it goes away in a day or two. Glad to know it's not just me!
