Hello all. Been a little while since I updated my journey. First the good; down 96lbs. and I am into the 190's which is 1-derful. My blood pressure had dropped to the point that my MD. stopped 1 of my 2 meds and cut the dosage of the other in half. The bad; my gout has flared up drastically but now is somewhat under control with allopurinol, diverticulitis was diagnosed and while this is not caused by the WLS it is aggravated by my severe constipation. This brings me to the ugly. The constipation has been debilitating. I have been using Mira-lax, Metamucil, Colace, Eating Fiber, Taking in as much Water as possible ect. with very poor results. I have looked up many suggestions and have found quite a few interesting ****tail;s suggested. Any other successes that you have had with this problem and could share would be greatly appreciated. Wishing you all much happiness and success.

Congratulations on your success!  The constipation thing is a nightmare!  It seems that around the three month mark is when that becomes a major issue for many.  It did for me.  It was HORRIBLE.  I started taking 2 generic stool softeners every day and drinking at least 100 ounces of water and had to do that for at least a year.  I no longer have to take the stool softeners anymore, so it seems for me that it has resolved.  Yours sounds more severe if you are already trying all of these things and they are not working.  You may need to talk to your doctor about it.  Best of luck.

Have you tried adding a little fat to your diet?  Maybe a little olive oil on your salad - a bit of fatty meat.

Fat seems to cure my issues - just don't have too much at one sitting or it may cause you to dump.

I had horrible issues as well. I used something called 'clearly fibre' in my water at least three doses a day, along with a little mio and I think what really helped was 6 almonds at lunch.

Unfortunately I can't eat almonds due to Diverticulitis. Do you think almond milk will help?

Isn't it great to get to 1-derland?  The constipation was awful.  It took me quite awhile to find a solution.  I use Fiber Gummies and take 4-6 daily.  They do have 5 carbs but 5 grams of fiber so zero net carbs.  I also use a fiber powder in my shakes but instead of a teaspoon, I use 3 teaspoons.  Occasionally, I add Miralax.  Someone on one of the OH boards posted they use Senokot starting with one at bedtime and increasing as needed.  One person said they take 3 at bedtime.  I just bought a bottle but haven't started taking it.

Thank you. This is the first that I've heard of Senekot. Please let me know how that goes. I had not thought about fiber gummies either. I will give them a try.

Friendly warning:  a fiber gummy yanked a crown off my tooth; an expensive lesson.  Walmart makes a chewable fiber more economical, anyway.  Daily Miralax, keeping protein under 100 grams, drinking a glass of warm water first thing in the morning, and quitting store-bought protein bars all seem to help.
