Tips: How to Combat Constipation & Great Bariatric Ap!
I was already honest about that with the first person *****sponded. I'm sorry I should have made myself more clear but there was no need to personally attack me the way you did saying I must have a problem, or addicted to laxatives. Had you responded the way to my post in this man than saying I had a problem I wouldn't be offended. As I said I have already battled with IBS and surgery before since I am not a newb to WLS - I had a revision from LapBand. So I've been there done that. I tried different things then that didn't work for me until now. I can't make anyone do anything as I have stated before. And again as I said I did consult my nut about it and she said it was fine to continue with my fiber. If you really want to help someone dont first judge them when you don't know the whole story.

Lap band to a bypass is two completely different worlds. There is no comparison so really you have no experience having a surgery where your intestines are bypassed. Sit back and learn. This is a whole new ball game.

My doctor has told me over and over it's really important to not be constipated. In my case--and it is my case and therefore I am simply telling folks about my personal experience--my constipation was a factor in the ventral hernia that was an ordeal I would wish on no one ever. I had emergency surgery at midnight a little over a year ago, which was 6 months post RNY. It is a common complication of our surgery and if you are constipated and if you have had other abdominal surgery, you are at greater risk. If you are constipated, call your doctor and find out what treatment he/she suggests. My doctor recommends 3-4 Colace pills a day, veggies/fruit that are good sources of fiber every day and milk of magnesia if I have any significant gas or feelings of constipation.
I feel your pain with the constipation. I am in the same boat, (not allowed fruits and veggies yet).
I had my one week check up and my NUT told me to take colace three times a day and if it wasn't working as well as I would like, to slowly add Benefiber until I saw relief. I tried that for the first time this morning and by the evening I was, well, lets say, HAPPY!!! GOOD LUCK!
I took Miralax once a week in the beginning and it was a God Send.
I loved the Smooth Moves tea before surgery but haven't needed it. But I agree, it doesn't cause cramps.
I am so thankful the Constipation issue is gone now that I have advanced my diet. I must admit
that was probably the worst part of having this surgery.
After much constipation, and a bout of diverticulitis, I've found what works great (for me).
I take two capsules/tablets of Magnesium OXIDE (not any other form.. doesn't work). They're 500mg each. 2 at night, 2 in the morning. I've never been backed up since I started this program. You can buy them at any health food store and online (Amazon has them). I checked with two doctors and both said those are fine to take pretty much forever. It's so wonderful to be regular again. I got a LapBand over three+ years ago and this is the first time I've been back to normal since then.
Anyway, just my 2 cents.
