Zip lining ultimate goal and I can't bring myself to do it. :(

You can check the pics in my profile and you'll find one of me zipping in AK last year.  Would I do it again?  In a heart beat.  The other nine in my party of ten were all healthy young adults that never had an obese day in their lives.  One of them took a small dig at my age, 51, compared to the rest of them and how well I was doing.  Their jaws dropped when I mentioned I was also doing really well for a former 331 pound fat guy.

I'm guessing but was it so much you being worried about being too heavy for their tower or maybe a touch of acrophobia from feeling the thing shake and you started listening to the inner obese person's thinking and then backed out?  If you can parasail and bungee jump then zipping will be a breeze.  Go climb that tower! angry

Never, and I mean NEVER, trust a fart!!

It was definitely both. I got about 3/4 the way up and it started to sway and wobble and all I could think about was OMG I'm too fat for this, this thing is going to fall over. In my brain I knew it was sturdy and built with some give to handle the FL weather but I was paralyzed and all I could think was I'm too fat for this. It's heartbreaking.

Were you not tied off to the tower when climbing it or was it free hand like a ladder or was it stairs?  In AK once we got off the ground and on the platforms we were actually double tied till it was time to go.  Have a couple places locally I plan on going to try.  There are several electrical transmission lines on some property near my house.  I wanted to run some lines between the poles but the power company guys nixed that idea! kiss (That's a joke people!)

It was stairs. We weren't hooked to anything. They hooked you up at the top of each tower you zip from but the walk up you're not tethered to anything. I think if I was tethered to something I would have been fine walking up.

After I had the surgery Nov 2012 I wanted to plan a vacation with the sentiment of doing things I wouldn't be able to do at 440lbs. This has been planned for over a year. I had my whole heart set on it and I just sat there for 5 hours while my boyfriend and the rest of the group did all the different zip rides. I've been in tears for hours now. We're finally back at the resort and I just want to curl into a ball and cry some more. I can't wait to go home tomorrow.

Get a grip sista!!!! (said in the kindest tone accompanied by cyberhugs ((((((((((((((((hugs)))))))))))))))))) dry your tears and enjoy your vacay!!! There's a ton of fun watching the others ride. If your gut and fear or mind tells you to stay off the zip rides you just stay off the zip rides ... follow your gut instinct.... it happened to me too ... I had all these plans to do the same post weight loss and all but when faced with the endeavor I opted for staying on solid ground and watching the others dangle precariously (in my view) from these cables and I said to myself 'nooooooooooooooooooo jack I am staying on tierra firme (solid ground)" LOL.... I thought I was all that and a bag of chips having raced and climbed the tallest coconut and mango trees growing up back in Panama and even diving from the tall rocks...I thought I would be a pro at the zip rides and water skiing too... but nope ... I freaked out and said 'oh hellz no' and whipped out my camera and had fun watching all my friends having fun while I ziplined on solid ground vicariously through them ...and I would not tell you how I embarrassed my son not too long ago going on one of these rides at an amusement park that freaked me out - I realized that because I can fit in the seat did not mean that I would enjoy the ride because I didn't I hated being flung upward and downward and being held upside down at all heights and speed so that my heart was in my hands ... once that ride was over I realized that I am more than happy being an onlooker or a spectator or a cheerleader...

Stop crying my beautiful sista ... don't go ruining your vacay over a cable ride ... get thee out there and enjoy yourself and your company ... I would trade places with you in a minute and trust I won't be zip riding either *shudders ... I would be enjoying being out of the cold and taking in the scenery, enjoying the atmosphere, the people, the sand, the water ... just RELAX and ENJOY!!!! I for one could not zip line at 327 pounds because of my girth or so I thought but when I tried it at 125 lbs I STILL WOULD NOT zip line because of 'hellz no I am not dangling from a cable' LOL ....

(((((((((((((hugs))))))))))) there will be many more vacations ... and if you want you can try again ... in the meantime enjoy what's left of it....

Thank you. I think had I gone in with the mind set of a spectator i would have had a blast. Especially since my boyfriend is a total goofball and makes funny faces and poses and things like that. It's just so disappointing because I really had my heart set on going. When I found this place last year it was the only reason I wanted to go to Florida. So after all that time and working my tail off of make sure I lost enough weight to clear the weight check (which I did by 55lbs by the way mail ) to have something like stairs hold me back just plain stinks. Thank you so much for the encouraging words. All the support I've received on here in the last day has been so wonderful. I can't say it enough, thank you.

Seriously look in the mirror and get over it, your not MO anymore.  I am petrified of heights and falling and can't do those things because I would die, literally my heart would stop.  If you can do it, do it yolo.
