When was everyone allowed to have diet soda?

What do you mean by "allowed?"  My surgeon recommended never drinking anything carbonated.  However, I'm an adult and I am allowed to make my own decisions and I can drink whatever I want.  Carbonated drinks don't cause me any discomfort and I see no reason not to drink diet soda on occasion if I want to.  I don't care much for soda, so I don't drink it often.  I was probably at least six months out before trying it for the first time.  I probably only drink it a few times a year now, usually when other drinks I like better like iced tea aren't available.

Ty for that...I was told to wait 6 months also but other people say there doctors said 6 weeks so I didn't understand why every doctor is different

I waited more than 6 months because I was terrible on my water intake. I knew when I went back to diet coke I'd forget about the water. I made sure the water was a habit daily then tried diet soda. I stirred it at first cause the bubbles hurt, I couldn't drink it cold but room temp was fine. Many say no soda forever, but most of us decide to have some on a limited basis. It's all a personal decision. I was doing fine with my eating and exercising and there was no reason I couldn't have it. (no it doesn't stretch out your pouch, cause you to binge eat, cause you to grow excess body hair or any of the other horror stories soda has attached with it) You may want to do a caffeine free version at first - it doesn't mess with us like the caffeinated kind does. Try what you can later on and see what works for you.

I also was not "allowed" to have any, but I tried it at about 6 months? I just remember feeling like my pouch was filled with gas. Not pleasant. Now I'll occasionally drink some, but I usually add ice to get rid of some of the bubbles. I prefer water though.

My surgeon recommended not to drink them.  I was totally addicted to Diet Pepsi.  I have not had a soda and 5 1/2 years!!  Its just not worth it to me, old habits for me need to be old and not brought back.  The additives and crap in them aren't so good for you.  My husband started back drinking Mt. Dew (he is a sleever) and his old habits creeped back.  He stops and buys them and chips and other junk food.  He never got to goal weight and has regained.

You will feel so much better not going back to them.
