talk to me about anemia please
The last couple days I have been really run down...I havent been sleeping great but its more than that...yesterday I went for a walk around 4 and was so exhausted felt lightheaded and just wanted to die on the ground....today feeling pretty much the same way...no energy, feeling like crap want to pull the covers over my face. I'm not sure what is wrong I am never like this. Should I call my surgeon, My iron was fine at my one year but I am a nanny and barely able to function the last two days, and they dont run labs again til my two year I guess. I have a physical on tuesday should I see if they will run some labs.
The basic blood panel, plus iron, iron saturation, and ferritin.
B12, and D OH-25 type.
Also - blood protein levels.
Make sure you are off B12 (if you getting any) for at least 1 weeks. So you can see how well your body is retaining any. If you take B12 shot or B12 subliguals a day or 2 before the test - the results may not show how much real storage of B12 your body has.
Same with iron. Though - feritin - they will not be affected.
Many times the doc do not test ferritin And when drop below 50 - some of us start feeling extremely tired.
The b12 - I am getting injection - once a week. Once a month was not enough to get me where I need to be.
A lot of "normal values " are really good enough for "not dying" but not optimum for us to feel good. So once you get the results - get the copies and check it yourself.
Come on here - and some of us can help you to understand the labs. .

I personally would not wait a whole year between labs. I get mine done every six months.
If you are feeling this bad, I would get my iron and B12 checked now. You can call your surgeon or your PCP for an order for labs.

This is exactly why I get my labs done more often. Having labs done only once per year is absolutely rediculous. So much can happen in a year and if you become deficient at some point during the year and dont' know it, you have to wait until your scheduled labs to get checked. You could develop the deficiency after 2 or 3 months. I dont' understand the entire system.
I personally get my labs done every 3months and sometimes if I see my Endocrinologist at 2 months instead of 3, she still does them. She believes in - better being safe than sorry. I very often have to tweek my vitamins and if I only got labs done once per year, I wuold be in big trouble.
You definitely need to get some labs done - iron, iron sat %, tibc, CBC, comprehensivie metabolic panel, ferritin, B12, folate, B1, B6, vitamin D 25 hydroxy, TSH, T3 total, Free T3, T4 total, free T4, = this is a minimum of what should be done to check for your exhaustion and to check for anemia, thyroid disorder, proteins, dehydration.
I do hope they can figure this out.
Are you taking the proper supplements? Multi 2 times per day, 1500-2000mg of calcium citrate, sublingual B12 daily or injection, Dry D3, carbonyl iron with vitamin C, vitamin B1
