Nothing annoys me more than...

Dr's that don't listen really get to me. For example, I switched physicians due to health insurance. I told my new Dr. that I have GERD and am supposed to be taking Protonix, which wasn't working anyways. So my Dr prescribed that but my new insurance wouldn't cover it without an exception.

So they prescribe me something else, which ends up just being the regular prilosec OTC 14 day packs. Which I've been taking. I mean this is like my 6th round of this thing and it's still not working! You would think at this point someone would maybe want to try something else or look at my stomach or something. I mean, I've even went to the hospital once it got so bad. It doesn't seem to be related to any specific type of food. It's just constant.

I ate a turkey sandwhich today. Just turkey on bread with a little mayo. And now I'm in so much pain and feel like if I bend over even a little I'm going to . This is really getting annoying!

Tmrw. I go in to talk to my Dr. I will be attempting to get her to refer me for the RNY, but also am going to push for her to do something different for the GERD. Hopefully the weight loss will help it too. BAH!!

It could be the bread...I can't eat bread, pasta or rice and if I do......I get so sick I have to go to the ER for pain meds.

Go to a different doctor is you are not happy with yours, you shouldn't have to be in pain.

Happy Holidays,

My 8 yr old is on Nexium and we had to go through many hoops for it. Every two weeks you just report diahrea and they will put you on something else till you get what you want. Unfortunately you have to play the game.

My doc sent me for the upper gi and they said I had a hiatal hernia. Maybe thats why you are suffering so badly.

Its no fun.

Had a big talk with the Doc. today. Basically said, I'm not trying to be rude but you work for me, and if we can't work together I'll find someone else. Got my referral today to a WLS surgeon. :)

The only thing that worked for me was Zegerid, twice daily.  I tried Nexium, Protonix, Prevacid, and Prilosec.  I suffered for more than 5 years.  I had EGDs done annually for the first three years, then twice per year for the fourth year, and then this last year I had one every quarter.  It was friggin rediculous.  I coulnd't bend down to tie my shoes without the food coming up.  I had to sleep sitting up, which caused so many problems for my back, I had to be on hydrocodone.  That, of course, perpetuated my stomach problems.  My gastro wasn't a surgeon, only a specialist, so he never referred me for surgery because I probably paid the mortgage on his second home with all the EGDs and doctor's office visits.

My WLS surgeon fixed the hiatel hernia when he did my RNY.  I'm all better now.

I weighed 313 pounds on December 1, 2008 the day of my RNY surgery and have lost 81%
of my excess body weight to-date.                                        Current as of November 1, 2009
OH Mini-Challenge Goal for New Year's Day is 170 pounds. 11 pounds to go!

I don't know if I have a hernia. No one has checked. You would think they would after all this. Your story sounds similar to mine. I'm on so much medicine that at this point I can't keep track of whats what without some serious thought. Had a fusion of my spine and have arthritis so taking crap for that which doesn't help the GERD. Damn this confounded overload of fat cells in my body!

If you want the surgery, RNY will fix it for sure.  I had GERD something awful before surgery, not a day since surgery have I dealt with it.  Good luck!
