oh my god... i think you handled that really gracefully.  i'm glad you stood up for yourself - i know you had to - but it's ridiculous to think we can just rearrange our whole lives around something this big at the drop of a hat, we are people with jobs and families and so forth.  i'm glad it's Friday.  I can't imagine getting that close and having to go home.  I'm so sorry you had to go through all this! Sending you good strong happy thoughts for smooth running tomorrow!

RNY 6/16/09 - Last weighed 10/27/2011 weighed 151 lost 52 pounds  66% toward personal goal  of 125, six pounds from unofficial unpretentious goal of 145lbs......basically very happy.   boo-rah, RNY!

Well that sucks!

So much for co-miserating, now here's the pep talk... It's just a speedbump, girl.  Move right on past it.  Friday will be here in like no time and the more you can lose before surgery, the better everything after will be anyways.  (Yeah, I know, sounds like blah blah blah when you've had it up to here with drinking broth!)  Just sleep alot, that's what I did.  Getting caught up on rest can only be a help and it will make the time go quicker.

Topic: RE: Does everyone go home with a drain?

Well, there's a drain and then there's a g-tube.  I had the drain, thin tube ending in like little plastic balloon that collects the fluid, removed the morning after surgery.  I came home with the g-tube and that stays in 5 weeks.  The g-tube released pressure in the old stomach, so it doesn't stress the sutures, plus is there in case you can't eat at all for some reason and you can be fed thru it if necessary.  You have to flu**** twice a day, which is weird at first, but then you get used to it.  Not all surgeons keep those in though.  Either or both, all worth it in the end.  Good luck :o)

Marcia,

I'm so sorry that your surgery was delayed.  But you are on for Friday and I'll keep you in my prayers that all goes well for you!

Keep the faith!  You CAN do this!!

Topic: First Information Meeting
Hello,

Just returned from the information seminar at The Miriam Hospital where Dr. Vithiananthan and Dr. Sax do surgery.

Overall, it was an informative evening - since I have been thinking about this for 5+ years, I didnt learn anything new but basically attended because I needed to meet the requirement for consideration.  However, for people who are thinking about WLS, I do recommend the information meeting.  The patient advocate, the Nurse Practitioner, the Bariatric Program Coordinator, as well as Dr. Sax were all in attendance.  There was also a former patient (I think her name was Anne) there too who answered questions.  So, for newbies, this was extremely informative.

Since I plan to scope out all the surgeons for myself, I will be attending the RWMC as well as the RIH information nights too.

But all in all, it was a good meeting and I highly recommend anyone considering WLS to certainly add this one to your list of "must-do" meetings.

Marcia,

Keep you chin up.  I don't know how I would have reacted in your situation.  It would really have thrown me for a loop too.  Bottom line though is that you are going on Friday and thats whats important.  A flase start always sucks especially when the mental and physical preparation is so intense.  But at least someone who was in dire straits got what they needed thats something.
