I also have United Health under the State of RI. This is what I am most worried about. I called UHC before I started this process and she said they handle approvals case by case. I will not know until I finish my last test on the 25th and go back to Dr. Giovanni. Dr. G's office told me to make sure my PCP is as descriptive as possible in his doctors note.

I've got the same thing with the knee cap.  Are you doing PT?  You essentially need to get the muscles in the knee streghtened so the knee cap stays where it's supposed to.  Am I diligent to it?  Nope.  Once the flare up settles down, you'll be good to go, just in moderation -- that's the hardest for me.  No more walking 6-7 days per week.  I just had synvisc shot into that knee to help with the arthritis -- jury's still out on whether it will offer relief, but I'm cautiously optomistic.

Hey Patty!

Welcome to the losers' bench! On average, most of us gain at least ten pounds right after the surgery because of the water weight from the I.V. fluids. It'll go down...I promise. I gained 11 pounds while in the hospital then lost it...and much more... by the time I saw Dr. Pohl for my post-op visit. No worries, k?

Keep on sipping, taking your vitamins and stay vigilent with that protein. Your body will do what it needs to do.

Do you feel up to going to the 'Living Life' group meeting Wednesday? (7-9pm/Greene Lounge). Our guest is a Nutritionist so bring any post-op questions you may have!

You're doing great!

I had lap band a little over a year ago.  I had it on a Tuesday and really felt well enough to return to work the following Monday, but I work at a computer.  I know others who have been out several weeks.  I had a pretty easy recovery and was back to horseback riding in 3 weeks.  Once I left the hospital I never took pain medication.  I think everyone's experience is a little different, but the band is an easier recovery than the RNY.  Julie gave great advice about the measurements and the pictures.  I didn't think to do that and I wish that I had!  I have a hard time judging how long it has taken also.  Even from one MD appointment to the next now I don't remember what I was at the last one.  I know that I have been slowly but steadily losing still, but I haven't kept good records.  I didn't have the Realize band, and I really don't know what the difference is.  Good luck and keep posting your questions!
