Thank you SO much for your encouragement. Im very happy that I stumbled upon this website this morning just looking for support groups around the Prov area. I know the one at RIH is coming up on the 8th and Im definitely trying to make that one. I had gallbladder surgery with the same surgeon last Dec and the pain was bearable..so Im hoping it wont be too much worse. Thanks Eldy!

hey Melissa!  It's normal to have anxiety before surgery.  I know I was.  And no matter how much you prepare yourself for it, having it actually done is soooo different.  First, don't worry about the pain.  If you have any pain, they have meds for you ( and are very willing to give them to you), second, pain is only temporary.  It won't last.  Then you will have a whole new adventure to look forward to.  New ways of eating and living.  You will be living in a way that really was not possible before surgery.   I am so shocked sometimes how I can say no to things that no matter how much I rationalized, I still ate it.  Good luck to you and keep us posted!   Eldy

Have you researched what your insurance company's policy is regarding weight loss surgery?  What is your insurance compay?  BCBSRI's policy is posted right on their website.  In any event, get a copy of the "summary plan description" from your HR department and read it, with specific attention to the "exclusions" section.

Topic: Syntrax Nectar Proteins
Hello!

Have heard through the various blogs, newsgroups, etc that the Syntrax Nectar proteins (Roadside Lemonade and Fuzzy Navel, in particular) are among the least offensive and most flavorful of the protein drinks out there.

I know everyone has an opinion about protein drinks...I've been lurking in the message boards for awhile now....

But, does anyone in RHode Island know if anyplace sells these products locally?  I'd really like to "sample" the various flavors first.

If there isnt a place local to buy samples then I can get them from Vitalady.

Thanks!

Andrew

Topic: RE: Lap Band with Dr. V
Hello Andrew,  I was banded by Dr. V on 02/23/09.  I had my initial appointment in September; so the whole process took about five months.   The reason it took so long is because I requested specific time frames for all my appointments.  I was approved by my insurance company right away.  I found Dr V and this staff to be friendly, very supportive and work great together as a "team".  My recovery was quick.  I was banded on a Monday at 3:30 pm and back to work on Thursday.  To date, I have probably lost 35 pounds.  I feel so much better!  I  never had regrets about having the surgery done.  Good luck to you!

I just had my surgery on June 1, I had pain 2 times in the hospital-relieved by different meds than they gave me and 1 time at home. I only took Tylenol 2 days after my surgery and took the Lortab that 1 time at home. As far as the insurance thing goes, I guess that depends on your insurance company's policy for WLS. Good luck on your journey!!~~~~~~~~Kim

Topic: So Nervous!
Hi All! Im looking for some advice. I am just about 3 months through the 6 months dietician requirements by my Health Insurance company to have the RNY and have finished all the other tests. As the time approaches Im getting SO nervous about the actual surgery. I have a lot of anxiety already and I know in my heart that the surgery is what is going to help me get better and to lose the weight that just doesn't seem to be going anywhere. Im worried I guess  mostly about 1) being denied by the insurance company and 2) the pain!! Any advice?
