Hi everyone
Well Tuesday will make 2 weeks since I had my RNY. Im doing well. Not having too many problems at all. I hate the protein shakes tho..can't seeem to find one that doesn't turn my stomach after a while. This week Im onto soft foods but find that things get stuck very easily even tho Im chewing the HELL out of everything...even pureed things. thats a horrible feeling isnt it! Ive lost 22 lbs since the start of my pre op diet on 6/9. so almost 4 weeks. WOOT WOOT!

The NP told me If Idon't receive my packet in 3 weeks that I should call the secretary. Am I to assume that they are submitting to the insurance company at this time? Do I have to wait until insurance approval before I receive my packet? My appointment was very vague and I have no idea of the whole process.

Daisy, I love you're posting! I think you make some good points there. I have noticed that some places I used to go don't smell so good anymore. But I have not taken the time to "stop and smell the roses". I am going to do that. In the last meeting the nutritionist talked about just that. Really smelling the food before you eat. Enjoy all the smells. Make it part of your meal rituals. I am still at the point of being afraid of those yummy smells that are hard to resist. But I can see, that its all in the perecption. You can "choose" to enjoy just for the sake of enjoying the moment. Thank you Daisy, for your post. Welcome back! Hope to see you at the meeting! Take care ! Eldy

i had my first visit with the nurse on sept 18th 2008 and had surgery on March 17th 2009. Dr. Roye's office forgot to submit my insurance paper work to get approval so that held up the process about 2 months. Once they submitted my paper work, within 3 weeks i received my testing packet from the time i received the testing packet it took about 2 months to go through testing. Good luck on your journey!

Thanks! I am headed back this coming week. I hope to make the next meeting. I know it is some time in the middle/end of July. I am of course worried about my mom, but I know that she needs to move on with her life without my dad. It is just hard being 4 hours away...and I am the closest kid (in distance...if you don't count a plane trip from CA).
How have you been doing? How is Chip doing with his surgery? I am going to be posting some new pictures, thought it was fitting that I have finally lost 100 lbs and am officially in ONEderland. Although I am afraid 200 is still so close, I know that I am headed in the other direction. I will see if I can get them on Facebook as well as here.
Take Care and keep in touch!
Love ya,
Ruth

Topic: Learning to love Smells!
I know this may be old school for some of you, but I am just hitting on a new thought. Enjoying and loving smells. All different kinds, esp food kinds. I used to literally hold my breath when something so good and tasty came by, because if I smelled it, I would want to eat it. But then one day I was smelling some roses (the kind from Grandma's garden) and as I was "drinking" in the beautiful scent, I thought...I love this smell so much, but I would never think to eat it.
Well, I started to think about the smells of different food, and testing myself with them. I love the smell of Apple Pie, but do not like the taste...so that is where I started...Apple Pie. I could breathe it in all day, but I would never be tempted to even try it. Then one day I thought, let me try something I would love to eat...a well known hamberger joint was on the way home and I usually avoided that route due to the temptation, ..well let me tell you, the smell was awful! It was not the pleasant smell I had remembered...it was a greasy and dirty smell, the food had an old oily smell. I did not stop to eat in order to try to convince myself I was wrong.
I have started used other scents to enjoy the world, like fresh bread or toast. A fresh orange peel, a roasted chicken on the BBQ, or maybe just a pot of sauce simmering,...I can now sit back and breathe in all of these, enjoying the pleasure of the aroma, without diving into a plateful of food just to satisfy my olfactory nerves. Thank God we do not "inhale" calories :) I can't say I always eat 100% healthy, but now I reconsider by smelling before tasting.
Just don't take me into Swenors just yet :)

Topic: RE: 2 1/2 months out,and doing ok
Congrats on your wt loss. I am slowing down now, but hope to pick up once I get back to RI...I think I will finally be back this coming week, but we will see.
As for the traveling, I heard of a microwave that will use the cigarette lighter of your car! It is called the Wavebox. It is not big, but will heat up some food while you are on the road. My husband works for Pepsi, so he is always needing a good meal. He makes all the Dagwood sandwiches, but a nice heated leftover meal hits the spot on the cooler days.
Hope that helps!
