I went to dinner with my hubby this weekend for our anniversary. We went to the Bay Voyage in Jamestown so we could watch the Newport fireworks from the porch. All of the dinners on their menu (with the exception of the rib eye steak) come in half portions (for half the cost!). I thought all of the RI WLS people might want to know about this option! It was plenty of food, delicious, and sure cut down on the tab!
I do get my Isopure powder from GNC. You may want to get the Gold Card. It's $15 but you 20% off the first week of each month even if you order online (which I just did actually) so it is worth it. I bought 2 big containers of Isopure yesterday actually and saved about $24 using the card. The Vanilla Perfect Zero Carb and the Dutch Chocolate Low Carb (they don't make chocolate in zero carb formula) are my favorites. The vanilla is great because you can use it as a base for using the syrups to make many different flavors. And the chocolate is... welll.... chocolate! The Divinci chocolate syrup doesn't do it for me, so I use the Isopure chocolate as is. When you mix these with 12oz of none fat milk or Lactaid non fat milk, you get about 62 g of protein for about 300 calories. That's really good. Normally I'll have 8 oz for breakfast and then drink the other 4 oz before I leave for the gym after work to get a little extra boost of energy while working out.
As far as the Nectar stuff goes, I've never seen it at GNC. I purchased it at bariatriceating.com. In additon to getting full sized 3 lb tubs, they also have a cool Nectar sampler pack you can get to try out a bunch of the flavors. I personally don't care for the Nectar stuff, but my hubby Scott does, especailly the Roadside Lemonade. Add in some Crystal light lemonade to the mix to kick up the flavor though.
My suggestion would be to try sample sizes when ever possible. Or get stuff at GNC (they will allow you to return it if you don't like it). I spent a fortune hunting for protein I could get down until I tried the Isopure before I realized that I could get some sample sizes. Luckily Scott is less picky than I am so he's been using it up.
The Davinci Syrups can be purchased at BariatricEating.com or DiviniciGourmet.com but Divinci is a little bit more expensive however, if you get them from Divinci directly shipping is way cheaper so it comes out in the wash. And they pack them for shipping way better. Also, you can sign up for the Divinci newsletter and they have special flavors each month at a reduced price. Orange and Vanilla are both on sale this month, $6.99 and $5.99 respectively. I just bought a 1/2 dozen of orange and 2 vanilla yesterday. Those are my favorites, especailly the orange. I also really like the German Chocolate Cake.
By the way... I laughed when I saw your comment about your "getting smaller butt". because I always say "The only way to make my butt smaller is to get off it!" Good luck!
thanks for the suggestions everyone!

Congrats to you on your bypass. I hope all is going well.
Both my husband and I are Dr. Vithiananthan;s patients. He is WONDERFUL!!! Very skilled and personable. And his Nurse Practioner Amy is great too. He's based out of Miriam your sister would like an alternative to RWMC or RI hospital. We both had great experiences at Miriam , its a great smaller hospital, very modern and easy parking.
Dr. V's office number is: (407) 793-5140
P.S. if your sister likes using the web, she might want to consider getting a Realize band. They have a more interactive website that you use to track your progress. Both bands are pretty much the same besides that.
Good luck to both of you.
I had a similar problem with the protein shakes. I just can't stand the smell. I've found that Isopure powders mixed with milk is the one that I can palate the most. And adding in Divinci sugar free syrups can make them better and add variety to the flavors. (My fav is orange syrup with the vanilla Isopure... tastes close to a creamsicle)
Hope that helps you because.... and you've heard this before I am sure.... gotta keep up with the protein intake!!
Good luck!
Hello,
If it helps, I find the Isopure Vanilla and Chocolate mixed with milk to be the most palatable. For me it is all about smell and I just can't stand the smell of Whey so it makes it difficult to find things that I can drink. Divinci syrups (divincigourmet.com) have been a Godsend for me. Adding these to protein drinks helps me a lot. For instance, add orange sugar free divinci syrup to Vanilla Isopure and you get something that tastes close to creamsicle.
I've tried Nectar products. They don't work for me (but my hubby likes them) if you go to Bariatriceating.com you can order a Nectar sampler pack too. It includes the Roadside Lemonade flavor as well as a bunch of others. For fruit flavored Nectar stuff you can mix it with water but you might want to consider getting some complementary Crystal Light packets to mix in with them. Helps to mask the protein taste and makes it more like fruit drinks/lemonade.
Good luck finding a protein you like. I went through a lot of them before I settled on the Isopure, so don't give up! :-)
onward and onward! lol
thanks again
