Hey Lisa!
I'm so glad to see you've made it onto OH!
If you have any questions or just need an extra supporter, call me any time!
As you well know already, there is a lot of support to be had here and the meetings are a great pick-me-up too!
Thursday is the next support group meeting at Roger Williams. We meet in the Kay Auditorium 6-7:30.
I hope you can make it. If not, see you real soon!

Hi Fern,
I had my lap band done by Dr. Pohl on May 12th at RW. Although the previous post is correct info, I wanted to let you know from the "band" perspective what to expect.
I did not have anything to relax me prior to surgery but I think they probably would have if I needed it. (I had an abdominal hysterectomy last year so this was nothing for me!). When they wheel you to the OR, it is kind of interesting how they transfer you to the operating table. The gurney has an air mattress on it which they inflate and lift the whole thing with you on it to the table. Then they deflate it and get you in position. Before you know it, they give you the meds and you wake up in the recovery room. I think I was there for about an hour but drifted in and out and don't remember much.
Once up to the room, they continued to give IV pain meds. Although I was not in pain, they said they give it so that you don't GET any pain. You will be able to get up and go to the bathroom, just unplug the IV from the wall and take the whole machine with you....that surprised me!
When I returned home the following day, I felt great! I may have overdone it though and didn't rest enough and by the third day I was very sore. I took some pain meds and slept. Problem is, when you are sleeping, you aren't drinking! My advice to you is to DRINK! I ended up back in ER dehydrated and had to stay for 6 hours and get IV fluids.
If you have any further questions, feel free to PM me. Good luck to you, you will be just fine!!!
When you get the date you will also be given a day to go in for postop nut counseling (2 weeks before surgery)- it is a group thing very informative. I wrote about my experiences in my blog - check January 2009 or later.
Dr. Roye is an excellent surgeon. He came to see me just once after surgery, to check my incisions and ask me questions - I was doing great and only saw students after that. I think if I had issues I would have seen him more. I had no drains when I woke up from surgery.
I cannot be more satisfied with his work and expertise you are in good hands!! I recommend him to anyone needing a general surgeon! My mom may need her gallbladder out and I think she should see him!
Great stuff!! Love iced coffee -hate protein shakes?? Add 2 scoops (17 g protein per scoop) to your large DD decaf iced coffee - no added sweetness (I use splenda) or flavor really (I use cream and I think it masks the mild whey taste it has -it is unflavored not flavorless) MM yum- iced coffee with a purpose!!
I also hate the super sweetness of protein shakes so I usually do one scoop of nectar per 24 oz of liquid - not anymore! Now I add an extra scoop of anywhey so I get the sweetness and flavor from the nectar but extra protein!
I have not done it yet, but you can bake with the stuff too! I have some recipes to try and when I get around to them I will let you all know how it goes.
I do recommend Any Whey for iced coffee lovers though - seriously good when mixed!! Helps when the thought of a protein shake makes you want to yack! It tastes just like coffee - not a protein shake!
