Topic: RE: Making the right choices

Hey Chris,

You know what? It took a lifetime to develop the habits we have. It's gonna take more than a few months to change them.

All I can say is 'constant vigilance'! We have to be constantly aware of the choices that are available to us at the time!

Prior to surgery, I ate and ate and ate. When I was full, I ate some more! I can easily fall back into that 'habit' again. There are days when, now that I have an empty nest, all I want to do is EAT!!! And it's so hard to tell whether or not it's because I'm hungry.

The clock keeps me honest. For instance...if I ate lunch (an actual meal) at 1 PM and it's 2:30 and I wanna eat, I know I'm not hungry...it's only been 1 1/2 hours. So, I drink water/crystal light/fill in the blank.

I have a LOT of head hunger these days! And not always for the healthy stuff! It sucks! But the clock, and a little common sense, really does help keep me on track.

Rob's got a great suggestion about healthier food choices. I know it's hard when traveling around but planning ahead is what has been helping me. When I dine out, I stick to the staples...protein first, veggies next, fruit to fill in the gaps. And I request NO butter on or in anything!

BTW, are you drinking with your meals? Are you bored? This makes me more apt to 'cheat' between meals.

I hope this has helped some. See you August 19th for the next meeting!

No -you are not alone!  Sometimes I eat something I shouldn't knowing full well i shouldn't!!  Like yesterday I ate 1 smores because, well because I really wanted it.  I do not make a habit of it so I think it is OK.

Anything in moderation is OK - as long as you do not get sick, like I do not dump.

I do not want to feel like I am on a diet forever.  I follow a different daily diet than pre op because I foolw a very healthy diet.  But that is my choice I have control! An occassional treat will not ruin me. Unless I let it, by saying "I ate one thing bad today so I am going to eat bad all day"  No more of that!!

Well you need to give a little more information my brother... what food(s) have you had that maybe you feel you shouldn't have? Are you having portion problems?  A combo of both? Put it out there, you know no one will judge you here and it will help us help you out..

You have to remember they worked on your tummy, not your head!!  You still will crave the stuff you enjoyed before. My suggestion is...can you make a "lite or healthier" version of what you are craving or ate. Get a little creative...or talk to the lovely Mrs., Im sure the two of you can figure out something.

If you need to talk you have my cell #...hit me up anytime!!

"You Go Girl"

I am so excited for you!!!!  I've always hated shopping and now it's not so bad. Still not one of my favorite things to do but at least I don't hate it.

You need to reward yourself for all that you have achieved so far and set goals for future achievements because there is more to come and you deserve it!
