Brian,

Dr. Roye will cancel, he doesn't mess around.  I remember the first thing he said to me after surgery was that my liver was perfect to work around because it wasn't enlarged.  They also weighed me at the hospital prior to surgery and I had lost weight.  If you liver is enlarged it will be hard for him to do what he has to.

Just something to get you motivated.  I did anything he said because I wanted it so bad.  I even put my cigaretts down and haven't touched one since, just because he said he wouldn't touch me unless I was 2 months clean.

Good Luck
Nancy

Hey Everyone! I just had my surgery on last thursday and I am looking for some support. Everything has changed. My whole way of thinking.. I never thought that i would change this much. Everytime I see or smell fast food, greasy food, or anything I would have eaten before it turns my stomach and grosses me out. I had my surgery last thursday and I dont even have a craving for food yet. When people and the doctors tell you the surgery changes you. They are absolutely correct. Its amazing. So far I have lost 23 pounds. I am so excited. I can't wait to see what the next couple months has to bring for me. I am thinking about different things I want to do instead of eating. This was the best decision I have ever made!  I know I still have a lot of work to do but I am anxious to see the results. I have been overweight my whole life. I have been so depressed and hating myself everyday waking up and looking in the mirror. I hate getting dressed and feeling my clothes getting tighter.. I am ready for the new me... I am ready to make some new friends that are on the same path as me. I hope to talk to you all soon!

Hello Brian. I just had surgery last Thursday and i had the same problems that you did.. They actually did postpone my surgery because I gained weight. They wanted me to lose weight because the first 20 pounds comes from your liver an they need your liver to be as small as possible for the surgery. Are you having bypass or lap-band? What are you having for the liquids? maybe i can help w some suggestions. hope to talk to you soon...

Topic: Dr Roye questions
Hello everyone!  I have a question to ask about Dr Roye.  I have surgery scheduled for 10/6, only 14 days away and I am worried about gaining weight between now and the pre-op meeting on 10/1, which is only 9 days away!  I have been trying to follow a self imposed "liquid" diet with very little solid food but have had a hard time following it.  I have found myself cheating on it alot and am worried that I have gained weight since getting my surgery date.  I was told that I would need to get on the scale at the pre-op meeting but it wasnt specified about gain or loss.  My questions is this:

If I have gained weight between my 2nd appointment (when i got my surgery date) and the day of the pre-op meeting, will they cancel surgery??  The problem is, i cant even check myself b/c my scale wont go high enough and I dont want to pay for a new scale that will when i am going to be losing and the one i have will be prefectly good.

I dont want tem to cancel surgery and I know if I gain its my own fault, but i really am trying and its just not going the way I want it to.  I think alot of it has to do with the idea that there are certain things i know i wont be able to have again, and want them one last time.

Any info would be greatkly appreciated!  thank you in advance!.

Brian

Topic: Update on Kelly Jo
Kelly Jo got out of the OR at about 3:20 this afternoon. Her hubby said the surgery went well and she's resting now in recovery. It will be a couple of hours before she is awake enough to have visitors. I will go see her later on tonite...and report back later.

Topic: RE: Just wondering why my legs felt like jello
Thanks everyone for your input. I have to agree I think it might have been muscle fatigue also. I have been walking 3 miles/ 3 times a week however, I hardly ever get on the bike and when I do it's for about a 1 mile and that's it. My husband thought that because I walk all the time I would be able to do the 4 miles but my legs didn't agree with his plan.

I feeling good now and even after that happened to me on Saturday, I went home relaxed for about an hour and then walked around at the apple festival in Johnston and went about my day.

And yes Jules I'm drinking plenty of water/fluids lol Muah!!!

Good luck to you!! I here are some suggestions as well...

personal hygiene wipes ( like Playtex), a puzzle book, regular book.  The MP3/IPOD is a great idea (drown out roommate if needed- hopefully not), the cell phone and charger is a must like suggested also.
Take care and keep us updated!!   Eldy
