Unfortunately, I have to agree with Stella. I started my hairloss around four months out and it stopped around seven months out. I didn't lose it all and what I did lose, all grew back!
There really isn't much we can do to prevent this from happening! We can load up on B vitamins, Biotin, Zinc and all the hair-loss prevention products we want to....our bodies go through a lot when we have WLS. Bandsters go through similar hair issues too. When our bodies are physically stressed, they tend to take care of the 'core' first. Hence the reason we lose hair (the least important thing for our bodies to 'worry' about).
No worries, it'll be fine, k?
Have a great week!

Hey Gene!
Welcome to the forum!
You had your surgery exactly 1 year to the day after I had mine! Woo Hoo!
Congrats on the 148 lbs lost! Wow! You're doing great!
Do you go to the RIH support group the 1st Wednesday of the month? I'll be there for their xmas party this Wednesday! Hope to see you there!

The good news is you can take that hair, skin, nails vitamin (I got mine at Wal Mart) & I washed my hair slightly less than normal & kept it in a pony tail during the really bad loss months.
I had my surgery in April, hair loss started in July & was over by end of September. At that time I also switched to Head & Shoulders and probably just out of coincidence, the loss stopped & my hair started coming back & was super soft.
Just wait it out. It doesn't last forever.
RI Hospital doesn't allow you to bring any bags. So if your having a husband or whatever come along, have them bring the bag... On check in day don't have the person bringing you stay. It takes a really long time for you to get a room and get you settled. So they won't be able to see you till then anyways. So have them go home and wait for ya. Dr. Roye will call them when your done and let them know how the surgery went.
I was the first surgery of the morning and I got wheeled in for 8:10 am. and I was done in the recovery room and awake by 11:30 am.. Now I didn't get a room till around 5:30 pm. And that's when I was able to see my family. But it's totaly up to you.
He's also going to have you take Magnesium Citrate the day before to flush out your insides of stool. So make sure you don't make any plans to go out that day. Cause trust me you'll be visiting the bathroom alot!!
Also the hospital doesn't allow you to bring in anything electronic like cell phones and computers.. But you can have a family member charge them daily. I had my wife charge them in the car while she was visiting.. The room also had a phone to use and it didn't cost me anything.
Chapstick.. Make sure you bring chapstick. Your lips will be sooo so dry and the chapstick will be your best friend.
On the day you get released the roads from the hospital suck. So make sure right before they release you, you have them give you an extra dose of the liquid Vicodin. Oh in the recovery day you'll have a self server Morphine pump.. Don't be affraid to use it.. ;)
Any other questions feel free to ask it..
Oh I wanted to mention.. Dr. Roye is a great surgeon.. I know three other people that have had this surgery done and they where all done by him.. Me and my wife as well.. My wife had hers done in Nov. of 2008...
