Good Evening to all,
I check this board all of the time too and read the national posts too. I am retired and just waiting for my wls on May 17th. I do have quite a bit of time on my hands as my kids are all grown and on their own. It's just me and hubby who is retired too. (not good when two of us are here all of the time,) so I do try and find my own groove by going to the gym and walking on the treadmill and hanging with some of my non working pals. I'm not losing any lbs..but I feel better.
I am trying to eat little bites and chew and chew just to get myself started, but I always end up eating like I usually do. I see that you and Kristen have a hard time getting the foods and liquids down. I just can't imagine having trouble with foods...I;m sure you felt that way before your wls too. I can't wait to feel like that. Was it hard for the both of you to eat mini bites and chew and chew. Did you all have a hard time doing that?
I just wish is was all over. I keep thinking that in a month, it will be all over and I will be back home. I am having a colonscopy on May 11th so I will be "cleansing my self more than once... May some weight will come off in the mean time. I am going to get my hair trimmed and colored and highlighted before the surgery....I figured that it would be some time before I got out to have it done, so why not before my surgery. At least the hair will look good in the hospital...(nothing else will thats for sure).
I bought jello sf pudding packs, powdered protein, low sugar protein shakes, broth, and chewable vitamins. I guess I need to crush some of my meds too. Now that should be fun....not!!!! I was told that some meds and not meant to be crushed. I have to find out about this.
As for Claudia, I know you have a cold, and after you told me about yours, I am trying to be very careful about not getting one too. I will be at Gerry House tomororow, hope to see you there, I will be wearing a gray fleece jacket.
If you have any tips for us that are waiting for surgery, please let us know. How much food do you actually eat? Is it just a few tablespoons or ??? Does your pouch tell you when it's enough? I know I am just too full of questions.....
Carol B
Hi Carol,
Well lets see...I don't think I'm getting enough fluid in yet...but I think I get about 40 to 50 ounces I drink crystal light all day long...I have a protein shake in the morning. then about an hour later I try to eat something, yesterday I made corned beef hash and pureed it...one can has lasted me breakfast & dinner, and I have enough to have some today..(sm can). so if thats any indication of how much we can eat, or maybe thats just me..during the day, I'll have a sf popcicle, and maybe a smushed up bananna...and drink drink drink...then at night i'll have another protein drink....I'm really not hungry, but I have to make myself eat.. sometimes, instead of the corned beef, I'll make egg beaters with some kind of meat in it and then puree it...that stays good in my pouch...
Today is 2 weeks post up and i'm down 22 lbs...
See ya tonight at the meeting...
Teri

My Sister-in-Law puts it in sugar free pudding! Imagine pudding that's good for you!!!!
The only down side o it is so far she has found you can only get it online at:
http://www.unjury.com/reg/bariatric.shtml
I was going to start buying different types of protein shakes to try and have in the house but she told me that your taste tends to change after surgery. Things you like now, you may not like later and things you don't like now you will like later. I don't know if this is something Kris and Terri have yet encountered but with protein shakes being so expensive I don't want to blow money on something to just toss it away.
Another site what has lots of different types of shakes is:
http://store.bariatriceating.com/proteinpowders.html
There are so many different types and even sample packs it's hard to imagine someone NOT finding something they don't like.
There is one brand they carry there I'd like to try and it's called "Zero Carb Isopure"
Details:
The Original...Zero Carb Isopure. Superb nutrition!
A meal replacement shake fortified with vitamins and minerals. One of the best tasting and smoothest blending protein shakes. Two scoops contain 50 grams of 100% pure ion exchange whey protein isolate, the purest, best quality protein available for our body. No fat, no lactose, and zero carbs (chocolate nets out to .5 carbs per scoop.) Sweetened with Splenda. An excellent base for making frosty, thick, and delicious blender shakes
Some of these shakes on bariatriceating.com can be found locally at GNC or any other nutrition type of center but there prices are really great as shopped around online and compared prices.
Another place to find protein shakes.....
Ebay!
Yep I've found them there also.
Not used either brand new un-used....
So I hope this helps you out and anyone else in the market to find something to supplement their protein intake!!!
Big Hugs!
