Hi Al
I have been trying to have this surgery for over 4 years now. It has been one battle after another. I saw Dr. Roye for the first time in January [this was almost a year after i had met with Helen] and that's when he gave me the May23rd date. It was a bit out of the ordinary, as I hadn't finished my pre-op testing.
My need for this surgery is mostly because I'm a high risk candidate for very painful, very dangerous hernia's. I have had 4 major abdominal surgeries since 2001 [massive smooth muscle tumors in my uterus, 2 hernia repairs and emergency gall bladder removal]. I currently have 2 hernia's.. 1 of which has some of my intestines all tangled up in it. the intestines aren't strangulated, yet.. but it makes eating very difficult [food is painful going through the kinked intestine], and anytime something brushes against my stomach.. it nearly makes me cry.
He gave me the May 23rd date because I hadn't gone through my sleep study. He refused to do surgery on me until I've been on the CPAP for a month. So, I had to to everything I could to get my sleep study done ASAP and get my machine without any hitches.
On April 20th, I'll have had the CPAP for a month.. so he let me have that date. Apparently he "saved" it for me back in January, but didn't tell me.
that's my story..

I am so happy to hear that you have a new date. I just found out yesterday, after years of telling me no, that my insurance plan changes slightly, and now WLS is covered!!! I am going to do it. I don't have a date yet, and I am in the beginning stages of the whole process, but if I am this excited, I can imagine how you feel. I am so happy for you, and I wish you the best of luck.
