ok, so i was doing research today.. googled some stuff, when a page popped up from RIH. It was their page in regards to what to expect to eat after surgery... it said they had their patients on a 6-8 week pureed diet? it this true? i know many doctors will do 2-4 weeks of puree... but 6-8? please, will someone confirm or deny this for me? not that i really care which way it is - i'll do it - but i'm beyond curious!! thank you!!! -kristen-

Hi Kristen, I am a patient of Dr Harrington and I have heard the same thing. So I believe it is true. Claudia

Kristen... I just saw Helen the other day and I could have sworn she said 6-8 weeks. I was so excited that I can't be sure, but I know we were talking about leaks......and she said Dr. Roye is SUPER careful and that his post-op diet is conducive to complete healing so as to prevent something like that from happening. Again, don't take that as gospel. I'm a nervous wreck and could have heard incorrectly. Shel

so.. do they make puree cookbooks? i mean, i could handle pureed soups for a week or two.. but i'm imagining that might get old after like, i don't know.. 4, 6, 8 weeks (!!!!) of nothing but slush? lol. i can just feel the creative juices attempting to stir.. how can i get a pureed roast beef sandwich .. haha jk. i swear. but really, what do you post-ops eat for 6-8 weeks? the same things? cottage cheese, soups, baby food, beans, jello and broth? are there other things? can tuna/chicken salad be pureed? somehow i don't think so. i can't wait til my appt with Dr. Roye tomorrow. Although, it's probably the post-op nutrition class that i REALLY want to get through. i have so many unknowns as to how Dr. Roye does things.. argh. i need to just go to bed. i'm seeing him at 9:45, and may just find out that he'll do my surgery sooner than May 23rd. That's what he promised me back in January when he first scheduled me.. i'm gonna hold him to it!! and Kerry, I'm going to ask about the cancer thing, too! see ya! kristen

Hey Kristen, I looked back at the journal on my profile and here is what I found.. I had surgery w. Dr. Roye on Sept 23, 2004. On October 19th I was cleared for puree/soft solids. On Nov 6th I was cleared for all consistancys. Hope this helps some. Dr. Roye is fantastic, rest assured your in GREAT hands! With love, Em

Em, i go to meet Dr Ryder this friday...I agree with you, if Dr Roye told me that he trusts her then I do too...I spoke with her nurse and she told me that she is performing about 3 or 4 surgeries a week...so that makes me feel better... Teri
