Pre-Op Diet?

Can anyone tell me if Dr. Roye asks his pre-op's to go on a special diet before surgery? I've had to lose 30 pounds before my last surgery date [although it never happened] to shrink my liver/make some room in my belly. but that was because i was going to have this done laproscopically.. since i'm having open surgery now, i don't know if i'm not required to be on a diet, if Dr. Roye doesn't require one, or if I'm just jumping the gun and he hasn't told me about it yet.. thanks! kristen

Hey Kristen! Congrats on your surgery date!! Dr Roye, according to the last support group meeting, does not have a pre op diet, per se. He does, however, advise to eating healthy or even just healthier, and not doing the "last supper" deals as it can enlarge the liver and make the surgery harder to do. I have Dr Harrington, his partner, but he also does not require it, although I have heard stories about Harrington making people lose weight first. Not the case with me. On my own, however, I have been following a healther diet for 2 weeks and have now lost 9 lbs! Its mostly about making me feel better mentally rather than physically, I know the physical will come! Good luck!! Kerry
