introducing myself? :o)
Hi everyone
I'm a new patient of Dr. Roye's who has just started attending the support group meetings. I've been trying to have this surgery since 2002, and now have my 2nd surgery date. [long complicated story, all told in my profile]. My new date is May 23, 2006 - - sooo far away!
I'd love to meet some people who attend the meetings, or want to, or maybe not, but live in the area and are going through this process... I used to know so many people when I was going through this at the Lahey Clinic, but now that I'm down here in Jamestown, I feel so disconnected from the rest of the world..
Anyway.. hope to see some of you on Wednesday [and hope even harder that it's a little warmer for the walk from the parking lot!!!]
Kristen
Hi Kristen!! This RI Board is very slow- FYI! LOL But anyway, I see Dr Harrington, who is Dr Roye's partner. I am scheduled for surgery for April 12th. I was scheduled for 3/1...but I got so nervous and anxiety ridden- I needed to post pone. I didnt feel like I had all my ducks in a row, since when I got that surgery date it was only 3 weeks away at the time- so they surprised me! I am going to the support meeting on Wednesday with my mother. It will be the first time I go. I hope to be able to feel better about it after I go! Look forward to talking to u! Good Luck!
Kerry
Hi Kristen,
I would like to welcome you. I also am going to be having surgery I hope around the same time as you.
I am a patient of Dr Harrington. I also will have to have a open surgery.
Maybe we will be in the hospital at the same time.
I am going fri to my follow up for my sleep study then Sat I will go over to the hospital for my blood work. Then I can call Linda to get an appointment. My insurance wants the surgery done by June 2 so hopfully Dr Harrington can fit me in. I had a hold up as I got a positive stress test so I had to go for a Cardiac Catheterization. I have now been cleared for surgery so hopfully things will go quick now.
Claudia
hi claudia,
it does sound like we're on the same track. although i'm crossing my fingers that i can get my surgery moved up to april, if possible. my hernia is just getting ridiculous to deal with these days. who knows if that'll actually happen. i've already seen dr. roye [before testing was done] so he tentatively scheduled a date for me farther off in the future than his other patients.. i'm going for my sleep study follow up on thursday, then doing my bloodwork. i've got an appt for 4/1 to see Dr. Roye again, but I'm hoping to move that up as well. God, that's a lot of hope.. lol
I just found out today, that the insurnace my ex-employer [i'm paying for BOBRA] is changing to totally 100% covers gastric bypass surgery. This has been a 3 year battle to get covered, and it figures when I break down and shell out the cash, is when I get covered for it. lol
are you going to the support group tomorrow [wednesday] night? if so, I'll be there.
Take care,
Kristen
Hi kristen,
I am a patient of dr harringtons too and i have one more blood test and i have to pick up my sleep apparatus this coming tuesday march 7th..i think my blue cross wants it done by june..i have no idea if i have to have open surgery or lap..how did you find this out/?
Keep me posted on how you are making out...
Have you seen Dr H yet??? I have not met him...only helen
carol bedrossian...attleboro ma
Hi Kristen......and everyone!!!
I, too, am a patient of Dr. Roye's. I WANT to attend the meetings but don't know where to go yet. Can you help me out with that? I live in Warwick, so I'm assuming it's not much of a distance to get to the meeting.
Would like to meet all of you, and I'm hoping I won't chicken out, like I always do. I'm such a dope when it comes to things like that.
Jamestown isn't that far. I work in West Kingston and it's just few more miles, but I can see where you'd feel that way. Must be nice though.
I, too have been trying to have this surgery for some time. I've changed surgeons, as Dr. Pohl was my surgeon of choice early last year. I got a no go after my pshych eval last year....too emotional I guess. And I wasn't too thrilled with the fact that I never even met the Pshychiatrist before he gave the no go. I was quite crushed and had to back up and regroup, as they say. But I'm back on the old path, and I've selected Dr. Roye, and have also changed surgery types. I had initially only wanted the lap band, but I'm not hearing very good stats on it....so I've selected the RNY.
Very scared. Very nervous. And I should attend his meetings. I know I would love to meet all of you. Can you all give me some words of encouragement and motivation to get me out the door? I'm a bit phobic about new, unknown places and going around groups of people I don't know. I want to.........but find it very difficult.
Help me out all!! Would love to see some beautiful, smiling people who are on track so that I can kind of fall in place behind you.
Hugs to all.
Shelli
Hi Shelli,
I too feel like you do about meeting new people. I am making myself go tonight. I have found that by talking to people on here have made me feel so good about what I am doing. We are all in the same boat and maybe that's why.
Well I hope to see you there tonight, it starts at 6:30 at the Jerry House.

Hi Kristen, I am a very good friend of a post-op patient. DO not have the operation. I think after doing all the research for this operation, know one should have it unless they are very very very over-weight. I too am over- weight but still enjoy eatting. If you like to eat...don't have this operation. The complications are too many to list. Dr. Pohl is my girlfriends surgeon. His PA is a joke(female).
I need to speak out and let everyone know that this operation is a killer! The doctors are getting RICHer and Richer at the expense of you!
Rogers Williams Hospital is a joke. The nurses lie, don't do their jobs right. Don't question anything a Doctor writes/doesn't write.Of course some are nice but when I asked a nurse to call Dr.Pohl she told me she did but didn't. Liar!
If you want to live a long, long long life, don't have the operation. Take the weight off the normal way. Go to weigh****chers...and join a gym.
Good Luck to you in your operation.
Warm regards, Lisa in Warwick
