I need help finding a new Dr. ....I need a new PCP.
I've been going around and around with my Dr. for a couple of years now...she didn't like the surgery idea but I did. I love her and appreciate her opinion and for a couple of years now, have been bending to her will and kept on going on yoyo diets. Today I missed a physical appointment (my bad,...perhaps they could be better at the reminder calls)....so anyway, her ALWAYS rude receptionist told me I was on the "black list" because I had missed 2 appointments during my 3 years of being with this Dr. I probably did.......shoot me!! At first I was angry, but now I see it as a way of moving forward. Perhaps this was just one of those things that happen and it was time for me to look for a Dr. who would hear me and what I want, rather than just giving me her own opinions. I would like to be included in the decision making, which has not been the case so far. I even went through all of the testing with Dr. Pohl and she just would not agree to actually referring me for surgery.
Can anyone refer me to a nice Dr....male or female, who listens to their patients? My PCP was great....took all the time I needed when I needed it...but now it's time to go. I was going to go to a referral hotline, but decided that you all would know FAR more in this instance. Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you for letting me vent and for taking the time to read my rants.
Take care.

Well, I live in Fall River, so Im not sure how much this would help. But I go to Internal Medicine and Cardiology Associates in Fall River. I see Dr Ann Grady....shes great! Ive been there 5 yrs, I do not believe she is seeing new patients, but the other dr's in the practice are great also. My mother goes there and my husband. I know, its not close for u. Dr Grady was very supportive of the surgery, she knows it will help me greatly.

Michele,
I myself never really had a pcp until last year. I was the type of person who "sucked it up" when I felt sick. The only medical care I was getting was through my oncologist. My husband took sick last January and his pcp fluffed him off which caused him to get worst. He ended up in the hospital literally close to death and had to life saving surgery. With this happening we had to find him a new pcp who could now deal with his life long health issues brought on by the lack of care he previously had. His mother, father, sister, aunt and uncle suggested Dr. Leah Adams in Barrington RI. Let me tell you this woman is absolutely awesome!! She listens to every concern you have. She doesn't rush you out. And if you feel something's not right she will send you for test to be sure everything is OK and she will not try and fluff you off. If you don't have a sitter and you have children she encourages you to bring them. It's her own practice in a small office and she is the only doctor there. She was the only girl in her graduating class and due to this she felt she had to work harder then everyone else to prove herself. Let me tell you as someone who never went to the doctors I now call her for everything. She gives you free samples of things if she has them and if you feel like crap she will have you come in THAT DAY and not tell you see me in a few days. Her husband works there answering phones and booking appointments. He's not the most enthusiastic person on earth so when I call I usually ask for her nurse June who's awesome with getting back to you a.s.a.p!
Oh and BTW she is completely open minded when it comes to WLS. As a matter of fact her brother had WLS with Dr. Roye and she is the one we recommended him to me!!
She's easy to get to also, from Warwick take 95 north to 195 east, Ya gonna pass the Tauton Ave and Warren Ave exits, there's one more too your going to pass, don't take that one, the next one will be the Wampanoag Trail ( I can check the number exit that is for you when I got to work) it's a fork so stay to your right and follow that to the end and it will dump you off in Barrington, follow that up to I think its your second set of lights and the Barrington library and city hall will be on your left that right is Maple Ave. She's right down that street in the Medical Building, it will be on the right side of the street.

THANK YOU, Thank You, thank you!!!!!!! Word of mouth is everything and I knew I would get terrific advice from someone here. I called Dr. Adam's office and the girl I spoke with was just soooooooooooo nice and helpful. I have an appointment for next week and I just feel like all is back on track. I received 2 responses and I really appreciated that from both of you girls...but the other was really far from me.
I am just elated that things can start moving forward. 2006 is off to a great start. Yes, I still have that pang of loss, as I was very close to my former PCP...she was a great person. But her pit bull of an office manager just made it too difficult to continue with her.
Your advise has been a God send for me. I thank you so much for your response. You've made me very happy.
Thank you again.
