How long is the wait for Dr Dieter Pohl?
I started my journey thinking I was going to have Dr. Phole. Called to make my first appointment to see him which ended up being six months out from when I called. I went to his seminar in the mean time and got the booklet and started doing what was required. I started seeing a nutritionist, Had my upper G.I., and had all my other appointments lined up. Well when I went in to see him, October 24th 2005 he basically told me he wouldn't take me on and for me to go home and try a six month diet with a nutritionist. According to him my BMI wasn't high enough (he said I had a BMI of 38 witch sounded strange to me).I was devastated to say the least. I left that day thinking that was it for me. Well I got home and looked at my paper work from him and they measured my height wrong!!! It said I was 5'6 when I am 5'5. That's why he said my BMI was not what I calculated it to be!! Sooo aggravated to say the least!! So then I remembered a friend told me about Dr. Roye. So I called his office the next day and Helen asked if I did the online questionnaire and I told her I wasn't aware of one. So she gave me the site and I did my questionnaire thinking ok here's another six month wait for me. Thinking maybe I should just to the nutritionist like Phole said. So anyways I called Dr. Roys office when I was done and spoke with Helen again and she gave me and appointment of December 7th 2005 which was just over a month and a half away from when I spoke to her.(the day I was speaking to her was October 25th 2005) I was sooo excited! I went to see him December 7th 2005, got my approval letter December 23rd 2005, and as of this Wednesday coming up I will be DONE with all my tests!!!! Then I call him and get my date to see him to get my surgery date! So I got everything just about done with-in a month and a half (didn't start my testing till January 18th).
So if ya thinking of Dr. Phole, be ready to wait....
He is booked out until June, but they said you can keep checking in to see if there is any cancellations. I have my first consult with him May 25th. One of his nurses told me right away that with the insurance I have that I will need to have a 6 month diet. So I called my doctor and she recommended me to one place but my insurance doesn't take them so I am going to another one. I don't see my dietian until March 16. I'm not in the same position as you, but how I see it is now I have time to get all my testing done while I am diet mode. I just hope I can have the surgery before the end of the year.
Hi Ms Chif,
Dr. Pohl is worth the wait! He is wonderful. You can call his office and they will tell you how long the wait is. I had RNY with Dr. Pohl and my husband had the Lap Band. Both of us have done terrific. My husband was going back and forth with the Lap Band idea. He is glad he went that route and would do it again in a heartbeat! He has lost 90 pounds and only has another 20 to go. He had his surgery August of 2005. Best of luck to you! Lisa
i have had lap band with dr pohl over two years now it was the way to go for me but you have to decide for you but i have had no problems and for me the wait was well worth it and as far as the lap band goes not as many risk factors was my deciding factor but just rememeber as with all surgery for over weight patients there are always risks good luck ....Davidt
