VGB at RI Hospital??

As i begin to prepare for my pre-op tests, i am also doing research into the various surgeries, potential for future problems, etc. I am starting to become concerned about a RNY - the chances for complications 5 or more years out are too much for me to think about. So, then I thought I'd cancel the whole process because I'm too scared. But now I just read about the VGB and that procedure sounds perfect for me and with very low side effects for the future. Do any of you know if Dr. Harrington or Dr. Roye still do that operation? Or if I continue at RIH, must I commit to the RNY? Thanks so much.

My understanding is that the VGB is not done at RIH. Jen

You are never committed until you are under anesthesia, you can ALWAYS back out. Don't let anyone tell you differently. If you aren't sure, then put it on hold until you find the information you need to feel safe in your journey. Be well. Kristen

Hello, I am Kellie, I am the preoperative nursing instructor (and a fresh post op patient of the GBP RNY, I am 21 days out) at RIH for the GBP patients. We do not perform VGB at RIH. I know Roger Williams Hosp does. And I agree with the other postings, You can change your mind all the way up until the anthesia. Please do all the research and fact finding you need to make your final decision. ANd talk to the team at the hospital (Dr Roye, Dr Harrington ,and Helen, RNPand the rest of the staff. They can all of the questions and concern that you have. Make a list of all the questions and concern that you have and take it with you the next time you see the MD ( to make sure you dont forget anything). Good luck, Kellie
