Just started the path of WLS
Hi Stacey,
Welcome to the beginning of your journey! Who is your Dr.? I had nothing but a great experience in all of my preops and everyone at RIH was very supportive and helpful. Always ask questions if you don't understand what is being explained to you...its amazing how calming you can become when you know exactly what is about to be done. Your on the road to becoming a healthier more productive person and your life will change for only the better!
I am 3 weeks post op and I have lost 24 lbs. so far. I feel fantastic. I am doing exactly what Dr. Roye has told me to and follow his instructions to the "t". Soon, you will be on the "other side" too and wondering why you never did this sooner!!
Stacey,
Congratulations on taking the first steps! The support group at RIH is a great place for information and resources. You get to meet great people and get real answers to your questions.
There are also a bunch of us (in various points on the journey) who have been getting together informally. We're meeting again on June 17th for dinner & dancing. None of us knew each other pre-surgery, and each month some new faces join in. We've found it's great to have someone to talk to *****ally does understand what you're going through.
I hope you'll consider joining us Also, feel free to contact me with any questions at all. I am only 9 months post-op, but got a ton of support from this site in the two years before my surgery. So now I try to return that favor as much as I can.

Thank you Jen, I am very open to getting together with ya'll.. sounds like fun!
I am not having my surgery at RIH.. I will be going to New Haven CT. I am hopeful and confident that they are as good as RIH*crossing fingers*.
Right now I think what has me most anxious is getting through the insurance red-rover. With being 5.4' and 260-270 pounds ( depending if I breath or not) I am told I shouldn't have a problem..But I read the horror stories and begin to get scared.
Thank you again for your time.. and I hope to hear more from ya'll.

Hey Stacey,
I had my surgery 8 months ago with Dr. Roye. He was fantastic and the surgery is the best thing that has happened to me. The support groups at RIH are very usefull especially right after surgery. The girls nights out are great too! I just wish I had been able to go to all of them. Best of luck with everything! Who are you using for a surgeon?
With love,
Em
Hello All,
I too am just starting my journey into WLS. I had my first appoinment at Dr. Royes office on June 1. and Helen gave me this web address. Dr. Royes office is sending the insurance company a letter requesting approval for the surgery.
I am hopeful that I will get approval, I am a diabetic, and seem to recently developed a host of other problems that could be related to the diabetes, and/or my weight. I am 46 years old, 5'5" and over 275 pounds. I have battled with my weight since entering adulthood, before that I was very slim. Like many of you I have tried it all to lose weight. This is my last hope.
I have been here (www.obesityhelp.com) everyday since June 1 reading posts, tonight I discoverd the RI link. I am glad to have found this as I am a believer in support from those who have been through it.
I hope to learn how to make a profile, get some pictures posted, etc, and to move forward into a new me. I am wondering if there is an advice that anyone can give me that would help me be prepared for what comes next so I am ready. I seem to have read somewhere that I will need a daily food intake log. Should I start making one now? ( I have old ones from other programs I was on , but would gladly start a new one of it will prevent a delay in my progress.)
Thanks for listening to my rambling. Hope to talk to some of you soon.
Have a great day
~Donna~
