RI Docs and the Lapband

Hello All I am new to this board - glad to see there are folks in RI who have had such success with WLS. I have been investigating the lapband for about 6 months now. I had an initial consult in NY to have the procedure done there, but am also looking into the two surgeons in RI - Dr. Pohl and Dr. Roye. Can anyone answer my questions: 1) Do you know how much of their practice is the gastric bypass and how much is the lapband? 2) How long did you all wait for initial appointments - time from first call to surgery? 3) How did you find the office staff? (Seems almost everyone is very positive about the surgeons themselves). 4) Has anyone in either office been banded? 5) How did you find RI Hospital or Roger Williams? Thanks so much for your help!!! Warmly Maryellen

Hi Maryellen! Welcome! I am going for my gastric bypass (lap, not open) on Tuesday the 26th. I have Dr. Roye at RIH and everyone, especially the staff have been very nice and very helpful to me along this journey. I don't know if Dr. Roye does many lapbands, but he is highly recommended and respected for the gastric bypass proceeder. Myself, I have been one year almost to the day that I have started. I saw a guy that works with me about 7 months after his surgery and he felt and looked fantastic. He told me about Dr. Roye at RIH and I called the next day. I was told that he was booked and he wasn't taking any patients until December, this was last April. I was disappointed of course and when they took my number I was sure I wouldn't hear from them for months. June came and I recieved a call saying they had some openings and they could fit me in! My first appointment was in Oct. 04 and from then I started all of my pre-ops. (14 in total) I have had some small setbacks with my thyroid, but all in all it's been a smooth year and I am very excited about getting healthy. Dr. Roye is strick and he wanted me to lose 25 lbs. prior to the surgery or he wouldn't do the lap. I lost 29 lbs. I hope I have been of some help. Good luck to you and starting your journey to being a more healthy and happy person.
