Starting with the Pre-Op testing..............
I went for my Hida Scan and Gall-bladder ultrasound on Monday.....I thought it was gonna be smooth sailing til the Dr. gave me the injection during my Hida Scan. Good grief! I was scared...and became very ill. They took very good care of me at Roger Williams and I couldn't have asked for a better Tech than Nick down in Nuclear Medicine. I see Dr. Pohl this afternoon for my first visit and then I see the Psychiatrist on Friday. I'm wonding how long it will take to get an actual surgery date. I'm very anxious and excited. The Hida Scan was worth it, but boy...it scared me a bit. I say this because I'm a lurker,...always looking for information on what to expect and didn't really hear anything "bad" about the Hida Scan. I was ill for only a brief time...then my tech injected me with saline and I was well immediately. I suppose some of us react differently than others. After he injected the saline and gave me some oxygen and put ice packs all over me, I got well in minutes. I felt fine when I left the hospital 30 minutes later. Again.......it's worth it to get on the road to surgery.
I am wondering about my Psych eval on Friday. When I scheduled my appointment, she told me to allow 3 hours in the morning and then I have to go back at 3:30. What's that about? So needless to say, I'm anxious over that appt. and wondering what the heck I'm going to tell this lady for 3 1/2 hours...LOL. Any suggestions?
Thanks for listening.

Hi Shelli,
I have Dr. Pohl as my surgeon also. I can't comment on the HIDA scan because I didn't need it done. My gall bladder had already been removed years before. The only negative thing I had heard about it was laying flat for so long was pretty uncomfortable. Sorry you had to go thru that. The most time consuming thing before surgery is getting all your tests done before hand. It sounds like you are well on your way. After you have all your testing done you call Dr. Pohl's office and tell them you need a follow up visit and all your testing is done. That is usually about 2 weeks from your call. Then Dr. Pohl will go over all your test results with you and if everything is ok he will schedule you for a endoscopy(EGD). I had Dr. Azzouz (great doctor). That appt. for me was also pretty quick...about 2 weeks. Then you see Dr. Pohl again to hopefully set your date!!! It is a pretty quick process after the initial wait for the first visit. Good luck with everything. Feel free to ask any questions you need answered! By the way, the psych. testing is different now from when I was going thru testing. My appointment was about 45 painless minutes. Let us know how it goes!! Lisa
My psych eval was only 45 minutes...I haven't heard of morning and afternoon meetings.
My Hida Scan was at RI and I wasn't uncomfortable at all, thankfully. I had the two techs there to amuse me and I got to listen to music on the cd player in the room...Im sorry you went thru all of that!
Dr. Roye must be different in testing and the time it takes..I started last Oct. and I am scheduled for this Tuesday. It took months to go through my pre-ops!
Good luck to you and I hope you get your date soon!
