Denied for p/s

Little disappointed. I just spoke with the plastic surgeon's office. They told me they had heard from Healthmate that I have been denied for tummy tuck, thigh lift. I was really hopefully that because I had been approved so easily for wls and I had a letter of recommendation from my pcp, that they would be more willing to pay for it. The p/s office told me I can appeal it, so now I am waiting for the official denial to come in the mail and I will start the appeal process. I have never had to appeal anything with insurance before, so I came on the site to research how to do it. Just wanted to share my news since I had mentioned to a few of you and in my profile that I had gone for the consult. Hopefully in the near future I'll be able to share that I have been approved. Still smiling though! I have a lot of excess skin, but I am only 13 pounds "overweight" for my height!!! And the smallest I have been in over 12 years. Megan

Hi Megan, My surgeon out right told me that NO medical coverage will cover the tummy tuck, as did Healthmate when I called them, they did however cover my breast reduction. From my surgeon I got a quote of about $10,000 with all included. My medical will be changing to United in a couple of months so I am hoping that I can get part of it covered with them. I have this big ole' "roll" that will not go away even with all the exercise that I have done, thus causing me to go 1 size bigger in shirts... which really stinks... the surgeon explained the whole process to me, so that would be gone if I did the surgery not to mention the little bit of excess skin that I have would be gone.. Please keep us posted on how you make out with the appeal. Do you have sample appeal letter that you got? Melissa
